Autograph Pen
You never know when you'll run across a driver or someone else that you'd like to have sign something. Often they don't have a pen on them so if you don't then you are out of luck. Aside from autographs a pen is one of those useful items that you often seem to need. Phone numbers or email addresses for your new friends in the stands, scanner frequencies etc. A pen is small, light and worth the effort. Page 15.

Scanner Headset
Obviously a scanner needs a headset so you can hear during the race. Mine is a middle-of-the-road model. I replaced the factory ear seals with the gel ones you see here and recommend them. They are very comfortable. Page 4.

My Stopwatch
This racing stopwatch from Robic allows you to enter in the size of the track. Then when you time a lap it will calculate MPH. Mostly I use my stopwatch to track the gap between cars. When the leader has a big lead I use the stopwatch to see if the second place car is gaining. Television does this for you but you don't have that luxury from the stands. Page 10.

Hopefully this one is obvious. The perfect NASCAR day is hot and sunny. Most race fans end up spending at least six hours in the sun. There is very little shade at most tracks. Put sunblock on early and often. So many times I have seen bright red race fans scorched from a day in the sun. Page 7.

Seat Cushion
This is the newest addition to my race gear. I never found a seat cushion that I liked until I found this convenient inflatable one. It folds up small but is remarkably comfortable on the stands. The trick here is to not blow it up all the way. This cushion is much more comfortable when it is only 3/4 full of air. Page 13.
My Binoculars
Important race gear at even the smallest short track. Mine are 10x50 auto-focus binoculars. These are a little larger than I'd like but I traded size for the auto-focus and the higher power. Page 9.
