The Track Too Tough To Tame: Since the very first Southern 500 race on Labor Day 1950 Darlington's tricky egg shape and narrow straights have challeneged NASCAR's best drivers. Sadly as of 2005 the Southern 500 is no more. It has been replaced by a Mother's Day eve race under the lights.

The racing is still tight. The track still eats cars, drivers and teams who dare to challenge her. The track still breathes the history of the legends who have raced there. But there will never be another race quite like the legendary Southern 500.

Darlington today is a great place to see a race. The Lady In Black is living NASCAR history. Everybody needs to see a race here at least once.
