For years Atlanta Motor Speedway hosted the final race on the then Winston Cup series schedule. Alan Kulwicki, Darrell Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt won their Championship titles in Atlanta.
After the 2000 November race terrorism and realignment changed that as the final race of the 2001 season was the 9/11 delayed race in New Hampshire. Starting in 2002 Homestead has hosted the final race of the season in all three of NASCAR's top touring divisions.
