What does the new TV deal mean for NASCAR Fans?

The news is all good as long as your cable provider offers SPEED

By Steve McCormick, About.com

NASCAR's new 2007 tv package splits up the races among more networks. But how does that translate to the average race fan?

This new tv package is great news for NASCAR fans. I clearly remember the excellent coverage that ESPN used to provide. We can expect ESPN to embrace NASCAR with their top-quality NASCAR programs.

Plus ESPN is a great fit for NASCAR as sports fans who may not otherwise have bothered with NASCAR are now more likely to be exposed to it.

This is also good news for the Busch Series who have been a bit hard to find on television in recent years. The new tv contract provides that, along with most races on ESPN and ESPN2, the Busch Series is guaranteed at least four races each year on ABC.

The Craftsman Truck series essentially stays the same with their tv home remaining on SPEED.

Another big change is that the NASCAR Sprint Cup All-Star Challenge will now be on SPEED. This could be bad news for some fans if their local cable company does not provide SPEED. If you fall into that category begin complaining now. You have until 2007 to convince them to add SPEED to your channel lineup.

The overall result of this new tv package is that more races should be easier to find for millions of potential new fans. NASCAR has done an incredible job of bringing the sport to the masses and this new tv contract provides a strong platform for continued growth.
