Fast Cars & Superstars - Gillette Young Guns Celebrity Race

This NASCAR Reality Television Series on ABC Begins June 7, 2007

By Steve McCormick, About.com

Six NASCAR NEXTEL Cup stars have their own reality show this summer on ABC. Starting Thursday June 7, 2007 the six drivers known as the Gillette Young Guns have been mentoring twelve celebrities in NASCAR racing techniques.

The 6 half-hour episodes lead up to the hour long finale which features a competition. They describe it as a "time trial race" which I assume means qualifying laps with each celebrity turning laps one at a time. I'd love to see them racing each other door-to-door but that probably isn't safe.

Who Is On The Show?

From NASCAR the Gillette Young Guns are:

They will be teaching twelve entertainment and sports stars the finer points of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup racing. This list of celebrities includes:
  • John Elway (former NFL quarterback) - Overall Winner
  • Ty Murray (rodeo) - Second Overall
  • John Cena (WWE champion) - Third Overall
  • Tony Hawk (skateboarder) - Fourth Overall
  • Jewel (singer) - Fifth Overall
  • Bill Cowher (former NFL head coach) - Sixth Overall
  • Serena Williams (tennis) - Eliminated - Episode 1
  • Krista Allen (actress) - Eliminated - Episode 2
  • John Salley (NBA) - Eliminated - Episode 3
  • William Shatner (actor)- Disqualified - Episode 4
  • Laird Hamilton (surfer)- Eliminated - Episode 5
  • Gabrielle Reece (volleyball) - Eliminated - Episode 6

What Does It All Mean?

A NASCAR reality show featuring random celebrities and athletes from other sports? I am not sure what to expect but I can’t wait to see it.
