On Friday night Kurt Busch was pulled over for speeding and reckless driving and then taken into custody when the officer smelled alcohol and the breathalyzer detected alcohol on his breath.
When a breathalyzer machine at the race track failed Kurt was ticked for reckless driving and released.
Kurt was scheduled to leave Roush Racing at the end of this season to go replace Rusty Wallace in the Penske #2. Roush simply took this opportunity to send him on his way early.
Kurt is currently eighth in NEXTEL Cup points but without a ride for the last two races of the season he will finish tenth. This will make for an interesting banquet at the end of the season when Kurt Busch stands up in front of the media and his peers to accept his tenth place prize.
I commend Roush Racing for not standing by and allowing Busch to get away with a very serious error in judgement. While Kurt legally will only be charged with reckless driving it sure seems as if there was some merit to the original charges.
Of all people, NASCAR drivers should understand the importance of driving with a clear head and must set a shining example for driving safety. Driving under the influence must not be tolerated.
