The Bottom Line
Pros
- Six buttons on the wheel for access to more game controls without letting go
- Dual force feedback motors can put out a lot of force
- Slightly quieter and smoother than the already-impressive G25
- RPM LED Lights give you a visual indication of when to shift
- Look, feel and overall build quality are top notch
Cons
- Not significantly different from the G25 to justify the price difference
- Still too many cords to battle
- No more sequential shift option on the shifter
Description
- The 11" leather wrapped wheel feels great in your hands.
- The wheel features two butterfly shifters and six thumb buttons.
- Wheel features 900 degrees of rotation which is 2 1/2 turns lock-to-lock.
- Shifter has 8 programmable buttons plus a programmable D-pad. The G27's buttons can do just about anything you need them to.
- Powerful, dual-motor force feedback mechanism with helical gearing provides strong, consistent force feedback.
- Six speed gated shifter seems more sturdy than its predecessor with a good feel gear-to-gear.
- Gas, brake and clutch pedals are steel and can be moved right to left slightly to make room for big feet.
Guide Review - Logitech G27 Racing Wheel
The G27 is a great racing wheel. Packed with features and a great feel this is one of the best force-feedback wheels on the market today. However, I could say the same thing about the Logitech G25.
The two wheels share most of their components so you should start by reading my review of the Logitech G25 and then come back here to see the differences.
Some key differences between the two wheels:
- G27 has six wheel-mounted buttons while the G25 has only two
- G27 shifter does not have sequential mode like the G25
- Helical gears make the G27 slightly smoother and quieter than the G25
- G27 features RPM LEDs on the steering wheel
Personally I love the additional buttons on the wheel. They let me assign more controls which are accessible under my thumbs so I don't have to reach for the shifter. These were high on my wish list for Logitech's next wheel and they have delivered.
I don't miss the sequential shift mode on the shifter. I know many races used it but I use the shift paddles behind the wheel for sequential shift and the shifter for fully gated shifting. This was not a big loss for my racing habits.
The new helical gear configuration is noticible only if you switch back and forth between the G25 and G27. It is better, but only a little.
The LED lights are cool but of limited usefulness. The shift points are not configurable so while they may work well in one iRacing vehicle, for example, they may be way off in another. This is a feature I like, but could live without.
