Tempers flared during this weekends Sylvania 300 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race in New Hampshire as Kurt Busch, Robby Gordon, Kasey Kahne and Michael Waltrip all were involved in incidents during the race that lead to angry outbursts. Kurt Busch handled his with great maturity, the others all faced penalties. Who got what and what does it all mean?

The Good

After Scott Riggs got loose and punted Kurt Busch into the wall Kurt was obviously very upset. This incident put him severely behind in his drive to defend his NEXTEL Cup Championship. However, Kurt got out of the car and handled the press with amazing skill. He then climbed Rigg's pit box and talked fairly calmly to Scott's crewchief. Then he went back to his garage area and helped repair the car.

This is a textbook example of how to handle a bad situation. He definitely made his point with the press, and with Scott Riggs, but Kurt never crossed the line so that NASCAR needed to step in and penalize him. I'm not a Kurt Busch fan but this was very nicely done.

The Bad

Later in the race Kasey Kahne got spun into the wall when rookie Kyle Busch got into him. Kasey came back around under caution and hit Kyle. Then during his interview he declared that when you feel you are wronged on the track that taking action yourself is the best answer.

NASCAR disagreed with Kasey today and fined him $25,000, 25 driver points and 25 car owner points.

In Kasey's defense, what did he do that was any different from what Dale Jarrett did to Ryan Newman in Bristol? That was just as obvious and Jarrett hit Newman under green flag while the drivers were at speed. That's significantly more dangerous that Kahne's rub under yellow and yet Jarrett was only penalized a couple of laps after he was already multiple laps down.
