Daytona 500 Qualifying Explained
Daytona 500 qualifying is completely different than any other race on the NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule. The drivers compete in standard time trials, but then also hold two races to set the starting lineup. Here is an explanation of how qualifying for the Daytona 500 works.

Stewart Storms To Daytona Victory
The 2006 Pepsi 400 was pretty tame by recent restrictor plate standards. Tony Stewart lead more than half of the race and was able to avoid trouble as his main competitors found trouble in the close-quarters racing. Kasey Kahne Dodges Raindrops For Michigan Win
Mother Nature dominated the 3M Performance 400 today at Michigan International Speedway. There were a number of yellow flags because of light showers before the rain finally came for good on lap 130 of the scheduled 200 lap race. Kasey Kahne sat on the pole and was near the front most of the day. His Ray Evernham owned team got him out of the pits first when it counted most and Kasey Kahne was out front when the red flag flew handing him the win.

Rookie Denny Hamlin Survives Spin to Win 2006 Pocono 500
Pocono Raceway is a unique racetrack that deserves a unique victory. The 2006 Pocono 500 certainly delivered a unique win. Rookie Denny Hamlin cut a tire and spun while leading on lap fifty one. When the checkered flag flew 149 laps later Hamlin had recovered and took the win. This race featured some long green flag runs and one very scary hard hit. Check out the full 2006 Pocono 500 recap.

Matt Kenseth Comes Out On Top in Thrilling Dover Finish
The 2006 Neighborhood Excellence 400 by Bank of America at Dover International Speedway was a very good race. The finish saw Jamie McMurray, Kevin Harvick and Matt Kenseth nose to tail for the win at the end. Kenseth had to pass two cars in the closing laps to take the victory. Point leader Jimmie Johnson struggled for much of the day and defending Champion Tony Stewart had to get out of his car early. This race could prove to be a key moment in the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season.

Kasey Kahne Conquers Coca-Cola 600
The 2006 Coca-Cola 600 featured new pavement, harder tires and a smaller gas tank. One thing remained the same. The 2006 Coca-Cola 600 was won by the fastest car. Kasey Kahne lead the most laps and held off three time Coca-Cola 600 winner Jimmie Johnson at the end to claim the big win at Lowes Motor Speedway.

The 2006 Coca-Cola 600 will be a very different event from last season's races at Lowes Motor Speedway. The track has been repaved, Goodyear brought a very hard tire and NASCAR has mandated a smaller fuel tank to force shorter runs on the tires. Greg Biffle Tames Darlington Again in 2006
Greg Biffle won the 2005 Dodge Charger 500 in thrilling fashion. Today the 2006 Dodge Charger 500 was not thrilling, but Greg Biffle again took the win. Darlington Raceway is a tough abrasive old race track. This forces drivers to race the race track and not each other. Today the race was just not interesting until the final 20 laps as drivers battled their cars instead of each other.

Dale Earnhardt Jr Rocks Richmond
The 2006 Crown Royal 400 at Richmond International Raceway started slow as there were a ton of cautions early. However the finish was exciting as it came down to an eight lap shootout. Kevin Harvick dominated most of the race but wasn't able to pull out the win. He left the door open for Dale Earnhardt Junior who had what it took at the end to hold off the challengers and take the win.

Jimmie Johnson Takes Aaron's 499 at Talladega
Mother Nature won out over the 2006 Aarons 499 on Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway. However, when the cars took to the track on Monday it was Jimmie Johnson and his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet that ruled the race. The Big One came early and took nearly one-third of the field in a cloud of smoke. This was a classic restrictor plate race for all it's joys and faults.

Kevin Harvick Completes Phoenix Weekend Sweep
The 2006 Subway Fresh 500 from Phoenix International Raceway had a little bit of everything tonight. Long green flag runs, hot tempers, people running out of gas and a pass for the win inside the last ten laps. Kevin Harvick mastered this multi-faceted race to take the win in Phoenix.

Kasey Kahne Takes Texas
The ten previous NEXTEL Cup races at Texas Motor Speedway had ten different winners. Today Kasey Kahne made it eleven winners in eleven races as he took the Samsung/RadioShack 500. The fastest car in the field got punted as Greg Biffle took a hard hit off of Kurt Busch's front bumper. Overall it was a fast, safe day as Texas Motor Speedway hosted an interesting 500 miles of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup racing.

Tony Stewart Leads Team Chevrolet To Win In Exciting Martinsville Shootout
Martinsville Speedway saw Chevrolet dominate the day as Tony Stewart held off three Hendrick Motorsports teammates to take the DIRECTV 500 win. There was a lot of beating and banging in Martinsville today as the little short-track put on one of the most exciting races of 2006. Tony Stewart survived a late race caution that saw Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch line up on his back bumper as they all charged for the win.

Kurt Busch Bangs His Way to Bristol Win
Today's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway was a great example of why Bristol is one of the toughest tickets to get in all of NASCAR. This was a classic Bristol finish as three cars all had a shot at the win. In the end though Kurt Busch had to put a bumper on Matt Kenseth in order to take the win. The beating and banging caused tempers to flare and there were even some post race fireworks as some took exception to their treatment on the track.

Kasey Kahne held off a hard charging Mark Martin to take the win in the rain delayed Golden Corral 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This race saw Bill Lester make his historic first career start and a scary moment on pit road for one of Robby Gordon's crew. Check out all the details from this race.

Jimmie Johnson Repeats Las Vegas Luck
Today the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup series stars paid their annual visit to Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400 didn't see many battles at the front.The most exciting news of the day is that the track is going to be reconfigured before the 2007 event. Matt Kenseth lead over half of the race but he wasn't able to hold off Jimmie Johnson in a side-by-side battle to the finish.

The Auto Club 500 at California Speedway proved to be a race of survival as the two fastest cars both blew the engine in the last 100 miles. Matt Kenseth had the right combination of speed, handling, strategy and strength to take the win in an exciting two lap green-white-checkers dash to the finish.

The Daytona 500 is the biggest and one of the most anticipated NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races of the year. Today the 2006 edition delivered on all of the hype with great racing and a thrilling green-white-checkers finish. Thankfully the drivers avoided "The Big One" as Jimmie Johnson brought his Hendrick Motorsports #48 car home for the big win.

2006 Gatorade Duels are done Daytona 500 Lineup is Set
The Gatorade Duel at Daytona races are in the books and finally the lineup is set for Sunday's Daytona 500. Since most of the field was already guaranteed a starting spot drivers were being extra-cautious during the races to make sure that they didn't damage their cars (or themselves). The interesting battles came back in the field as drivers tried to race their way into the Daytona 500.

Biffle Squeaks the Race While Stewart Gets the Championship
The 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season went out with a roar as Homestead-Miami Speedway saw the race decided by just a couple of feet. Greg Biffle beat Mark Martin to the line by two feet. Tony Stewart very quietly rode around for a 15th place finish, but it was all he needed to clinch the 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Championship.

It was an interesting day in Phoenix as in the morning defending NEXTEL Cup Champion Kurt Busch was suspended for the rest of the year by car owner Jack Roush. Later that afternoon his younger brother Kyle Busch won the Checker Auto Parts 500 in his Hendrick Motorsports #5.

Edwards charges to Texas victory for second win in a row
Texas Motor Speedway made the most of their brand new race date. Starting in the daylight and finishing under the lights the Dickies 500 delivered an interesting challenge for drivers and crews as they struggled to keep up with the changing track conditions. The finish was a thriller as Carl Edwards charged from sixth place in just eleven laps on new tires to beat Mark Martin who stayed out on old tires.
