Part II: The Race To The Chase

These Races From Daytona To Richmond Set The Field For The Chase

By Steve McCormick, About.com

Officially "The Race To The Chase" is made up of the last ten races before The Chase For The NASCAR Sprint Cup begins. However, when the teams come back to Daytona for the unofficial kickoff to the second half of the season is when The Race To The Chase really kicks in.

The Race To The Chase generates some of the greatest drama of the entire season. This is crunch time. Making The Chase can make your whole year. Missing it means you are nobody for the last ten races.

From Daytona in July until the cutoff race in Richmond there is nothing more important than getting into the top twelve in points.

Also, it is normally during this part of the season that the biggest Silly Season chips fall. The top drivers on the market and the best teams will announce their pairings for the next season.

Key races:

  • July 4th weekend in Daytona
  • Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis
  • August night race in Bristol
  • Richmond in September
