2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Schedule
The 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule has undergone a pretty significant overhaul as compared to the 2011 edition of the calendar.
Four race tracks from the 2011 schedule are missing from 2012. With the addition of one new race track and a couple of tracks doubling up the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule is 22 races long, two short of last season's calendar.
No Longer Trucking
At the top of the list Nashville Superspeedway asked to be removed from the schedule due to its ongoing battle with NASCAR over a Sprint Cup series event. Cliff Hawks, general manager of Nashville Superspeedway, said "without a Sprint Cup race... we simply cannot continue."
Nashville hosted two truck series races last season.
Also missing from the schedule but with less explanation offered are Darlington Raceway, Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis and New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
This left a grand total of five empty weekends on the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule. NASCAR was able to fill three of them but two dates have been left open.
Picking Up The Slack
With a lot of open dates to work with NASCAR officials had some work to do to put together a functional 2012 schedule. Three race tracks stepped up to the plate including one new old track which welcomes NASCAR back to it's legendary banks in 2012.
Rockingham Speedway has been renamed since it lost it's NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races after the 2004 season. The former North Carolina Motor Speedway is happy to be back among NASCAR's top three touring series and I am sure they are hoping to grow this relationship to include the other two.
I am happy to see "The Rock" back on the NASCAR calendar. This is a great place to watch a race.
Kentucky Speedway and Iowa Speedway both added a second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event to their calendars to complement the one race each of those tracks already had scheduled.
Kentucky Speedway has added a June date to go along with its fall event. Iowa added a September event to its existing July event to help fill in the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series calendar.
After the break is the complete 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule.
