Storylines:
Richard Childress Racing didn't put any drivers in the 2009 Chase. Clint Bowyer was the top finisher in points last season as the four Childress teams finished 15th, 17th, 19th and 21st in the final standings.
Can Childress win his first Championship since Dale Earnhardt's back-to-back titles in 1993 and 1994?

Last Year:
When the green flag flew it didn't stay green for long. "The Track Too Tough to Tame" immediately starting taking victims. This race never got into a rhythm and the cautions continued to fly.
By the time the 2009 Southern 500 came to a close this race had set an all-time record for caution flags and left a long string of broken cars in its wake. Mark Martin made it to Victory Lane but Darlington Raceway was the real winner.
Predictions:
Jeff Gordon's seven Darlington wins puts him third on the all-time Darlington win list behind Dale Earnhardt and David Pearson. A win this weekend will put Gordon one win behind Earnhardt and two wins behind Pearson on Darlington's winner's list.
Jeff Gordon also has finished in the top five in each of the last six Darlington races. Gordon knows how to get to Victory Lane in Darlington and is racing with a renewed passion this year. Gordon makes a strong pick this week.
For my backup this week I am going to dig deep. Martin Truex Jr. has been near the top of the Darlington standings since he joined the series full time in 2006. Truex is a bit of a reach but I look for him to surprise people with a very strong run on Saturday.
