2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Raybestos Rookie of the Year Preview

Only Two Rookies Are Currently Scheduled To Battle For the Raybestos Crown

By , About.com Guide

The 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup field will be short on full-time rookies compared to recent seasons. Only two drivers have announced intentions to run for the 2010 Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors. Kevin Conway and Terry Cook are currently slated to go head-to-head for the 2010 Sprint Cup rookie title. Who is the favorite coming into this year?

Kevin Conway

Kevin Conway is currently tapped to drive the Front Row Motorsports #34 in 2010. Conway will be driving Fords with Yates/Roush engines. The team has a full-time sponsor lined up with Extenze Men's Health Supplement.

Conway comes to Sprint Cup racing with limited NASCAR experience. Conway has one career Camping World Truck Series start. He raced the trucks in Phoenix in 2009 starting 20th and finishing 19th.

His Nationwide Series resume is a bit more robust. Conway has a total of 25 starts in the Nationwide series with 12 of those coming in 2009, his most productive season in NASCAR. In those 25 total Nationwide series starts Kevin Conway has never finished in the top ten, scored a pole or lead a lap.

On the plus side Kevin Conway gets the benefit of a guaranteed starting spot for the first five races as his car owner finished out 2009 in the top 35 in owner points. Given his limited experience in NASCAR's top touring series this will prove invaluable in letting him focus on getting comfortable in the car instead of scrambling to qualify.

The 31 year old Conway will have to get up to speed quickly if he is going to challenge for the 2010 Raybestos Rookie of the Year title.
