This forty lap event is broken up into two twenty lap segments with a competition yellow in the middle where teams can pit if they choose to. Only the top two drivers make it from the Showdown into the All-Star Race and a shot at $1 million.
The Sprint Showdown
Qualifying was rained out so the lineup for the Sprint Showdown was set by a random draw. This scattered good cars throughout the field and made the first few laps hectic as drivers scambled towards the front.
David Ragan drew the pole and got away on the start. Greg Biffle tracked down his Roush-Fenway teammate for the lead but David Ragan lead all twenty laps until the first caution on lap 17 led them into the mandatory break at lap 20.
Ragan and Biffle lead them down to the green for the second twenty lap sprint.
David Gilliland stayed out during the break and moved up to third for the restart. He made it almost one lap before he over-drove the car into turn three. Gilliland slid up the hill and took David Ragan into the wall. It was a shame that one of the fastest cars in the race was taken out of contention by another driver's simple mistake.
Greg Biffle and Martin Truex Jr. battled for the lead in the second half of the Sprint Showdown with Jeff Burton chasing them down from third. Truex got past for the lead and pulled away while Biffle was able to hold on for second. Both drivers advanced to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.
2010 All-Star Fan Vote
The field was set except for the driver voted into the Sprint All-Star race by the fans. For 2010 that honor goes to Carl Edwards. Edwards is the 21st and final starter in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race
The stage is set. Next up are four segments totaling 100 laps with $1 Million at the end. This is the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.
