The 2009 Sprint Cup All-Star Showdown is the last chance for drivers to race their way into the 2009 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.

This forty lap event is broken up into two twenty lap segments with a competition yellow in the middle where teams can pit if they choose to. Only the top two drivers make it from the Showdown into the All-Star Race and a shot at $1 million.

The Sprint Showdown

David Stremme, Sam Hornish and Martin Truex Jr. completed the first 20 lap segment at the head of the field. After pit stops the final twenty lap segment was underway.

Hornish and Stremme put on a good battle at the front. Hornish got along side over and over but Stremme held on from the outside lane and held him off. That battle allowed Jamie McMurray to move into third and close on the leaders.

Jamie McMurray closed the gap in a hurry thanks to a caution flag. When the race resumed Hornish and McMurray battled past David Stremme into the final two transfer spots.

The race settled down for the final ten laps allowing Sam Hornish and Jamie McMurray to qualify for the 2009 Sprint All-Star Race.

2009 All-Star Fan Vote

The field was set except for the driver voted into the Sprint All-Star race by the fans. For 2009 that honor goes to rookie Joey Logano. Logano is the 21st and final starter in the 2009 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race

The stage is set. Next up are four segments totaling 100 laps known as the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.
