This weekend in New York City Jimmie Johnson will collect his third consecutive NASCAR Championship trophy and the big check that goes along with it. In addition to the banquet on Friday there are a full week of activities planned for Johnson and the rest of NASCAR's top ten finishers in New York City.

Monday

This is arrival day for Jimmie and his wife Chandra. The rest of the participants don't need to arrive until later in the week. The highlight of Monday is the Champion's Welcome Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria.

Tuesday

Tuesday Jimmie Johnson will visit a number of New York City landmarks for photo shoots. That evening he will be a guest on MRN's NASCAR Live.

Wednesday

Wednesday morning Jimmie Johnson will ring the bell to open the New York Stock Exchange. After that he will attend a variety of press/sponsor events including:

  • Tissot Countdown Clock event at the Marquee of the Hard Rock Café
  • March of Dimes luncheon
  • Media luncheon at Foley’s
  • Sprint Media Celebration at the Sports Museum of America

Thursday

Thursday the awards start to flow with the NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Media Luncheon. This event will see a number of awards given out including Regan Smith's Rookie of the Year award.

After that there is a photo shoot in Times Square and that evening Tony Stewart will host the 2008 Stewie Awards during his Sirius Satellite Radio show.

Friday

Friday afternoon features more photos and finally the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup awards banquet in the Grand Ballroom at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. The full banquet is scheduled from 7:00 - 10:30.

Television Coverage

The banquet will be televised live on ESPN Classic beginning at 9:00. It will be rerun on ESPN2 Monday at 2:00 in the afternoon.

It is also notable that there is no mention of having the top ten drive their race cars through the streets of New York. That event seems to have been cut from the 2008 Champions Week schedule.
