Jimmie Johnson Wins 2008 Sprint Cup Championship
The 2008 Ford 400 was the final race of the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. Jimmie Johnson came into the race just needing to stay out of trouble in order to clinch the 2008 Championship. His challenger Carl Edwards did everything he could to catch Johnson including leading the most laps and winning the race. However it wasn't enough to close on Johnson who played it safe and finished safely to claim the 2008 Sprint Cup championship.
2008 Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway
Once again Jimmie Johnson can make history this weekend in Homestead. If Johnson can finish 36th or better he will guarantee himself his third consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. This will tie the record set by Cale Yarborough from 1976 - 1978. What is it that makes Jimmie Johnson this much better than the rest?
Jimmie Johnson Almost Clinches 2008 Sprint Cup Championship in Phoenix
Jimmie Johnson will have to wait one more week to hold the NASCAR Sprint Cup. He could have clinched this week during the 2008 Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. Johnson did his part by winning the race but Carl Edwards clung to hope with a fourth place effort. The 2008 Chase for the Cup will be decided at the final race of the season in Homestead.
2008 O'Reilly Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway
The 2008 Chase For The Cup is on the home stretch. Only two races remain in the 2008 season and the Championship battle is heating up. Carl Edwards has won the last two races and cut Jimmie Johnson's lead dramatically. This weekend's Sprint Cup race in Phoenix will set the stage for the final showdown in Homestead next Sunday.
2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Point Standings
Jimmie Johnson leads the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings with just two races to go in the 2008 Chase. Carl Edwards has won the last two races and is cutting into Johnson's lead.
2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series Point Standings
Clint Bowyer has a 91 point lead over Carl Edwards as the NASCAR Nationwide Series has just two races remaining in the 2008 season. Even without the Chase format the Nationwide Series has a closer points battle than the Sprint Cup.
2008 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Point Standings
Johnny Benson and Ron Hornaday are locked in battle for the 2008 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship. Only two races are left and Benson has a tiny six point lead over Hornaday. This is easily the best points battle in NASCAR.
Edwards Stretches Fuel for 2008 Texas Chase Victory
Carl Edwards had the fastest car for most of the 2008 Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway but had to rely on pit strategy to get the victory. Edwards was putting around at half throttle at the end but he claimed the win and cut deeply into Jimmie Johnson's point lead with just two races remaining in the 2008 Chase.
2008 Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway
The 2008 Sprint Cup season is drawing to a close. For teams that have had a rough 2008 there are only three races left to start a winning tradition and build momentum for next year. Jeff Gordon is winless so far in 2008 and is running out of time to get into Victory Lane. Can the former champ break through this weekend in Texas?
Carl Edwards Claims Atlanta While Jimmie Johnson Continues Chase Roll
The 2008 Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway continued Jimmie Johnson's incredible 2008 Chase run. Johnson overcame an early mistake to finish a strong second and extend his point lead. Carl Edwards won the race and moved to second but it seems to be too little too late for his 2008 Championship hopes.
2008 Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway
The 2008 Pep Boys Auto 500 will play a critical role in the 2008 Chase. Atlanta Motor Speedway's fast 1.54 mile quad-oval is vastly different than last week's short track grind in Martinsville. Jimmie Johnson won this race in 2007 on his way to the Cup. Can he win again this weekend?
Jimmie Johnson Opens Huge Chase Lead With 2008 Martinsville Win
The 2008 Tums QuikPak 500 was dominated by Chase leader Jimmie Johnson. He lead the most laps and rolled home to an easy victory. While this battle was waged at Martinsville Speedway the bigger story this weekend is the 2008 Chase for the Cup war. Has Jimmie Johnson clinched?
2008 Tums QuikPak 500 at Martinsville Speedway
Martinsville Speedway's short track will host race number six of the 2008 Chase for the Cup. Cramming 43 Sprint Cup drivers into this tight half-mile track makes for close quarters racing. In the spring Denny Hamlin and Jeff Gordon used their front row starting spots to finish 1-2 but current point leaders Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Burton were right behind.
Jeff Burton Wins 2008 Lowes Chase Race on Strategy
Lowes Motor Speedway hosted the fifth race of the 2008 Chase for the Cup. The Chase is now half over and more than half of the original twelve contenders have been effectively eliminated from contention. Jeff Burton's big won put him squarely in the hunt while Jimmie Johnson and Greg Biffle both remained solid.
2008 Bank Of America 500 at Lowes Motor Speedway
This Saturday night the 2008 Chase for the Cup visits Lowes Motor Speedway for the 2008 Bank of America 500. When the Sprint Cup stars were here in May Kasey Kahne won both the Sprint All-Star Race and the Coca-Cola 600. This weekend he could become the first driver ever to sweep the three major Lowes Motor Speedway events.
2008 Chase for the Cup Drivers
The 2008 Chase for the Cup features twelve drivers battling for ten races to determine the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion.

Kyle Busch had a great regular season and found his way to Victory Lane eight times. Carl Edwards ruled the intermediate tracks like those that dominate these final ten races. Jimmie Johnson enters the Chase with back-to-back wins and is the two-time defending series…

2008 Daytona 500 Headquarters
It has been called "The Great American Race" and "The Super Bowl of NASCAR." No matter what you call it there is no doubt that the Daytona 500 is the biggest, most-prestigous event on the NASCAR Sprint Cup calendar. This season is extra-special as this is the 50th running of the Daytona 500.
50 Years of Daytona 500 Race Cars
2008 marks the 50th running of the Daytona 500. A lot has changed in NASCAR since that very first Daytona 500 was run on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway. Speed, safety and competition have all seen great advances through the decades. Here are the major advances in 50 years of Daytona 500 race cars.
Dale Earhardt Jr. Wins 2008 Budweiser Shootout
Tonight the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers broke the silence of the long off-season. The 2008 Budweiser Shootout marks the unofficial start of the NASCAR season. Tonight the drivers battled for 70 laps with no points on the line. Although the race itself was anticlimactic it is great to hear the sounds of NASCAR again.

2008 daytona 500 gatorade duels international speedway dis 50th dale earnhardt junior jr denny hamlin toyota
Ryan Newman Wins 2008 Daytona 500
The 2008 Daytona 500 was supposed to be dominated by the Joe Gibbs Toyota drivers and the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolets. They had won everything else during Speed Weeks and were expected to sort out the 50th Daytona 500 between them. Apparently nobody told the Penske Dodge drivers Ryan Newman and Kurt Busch that they were not supposed to win the 2008 Daytona 500.
Carl Edwards Wins Monday's 2008 Auto Club 500
California Speedway is not known for its great races. While this one was no different California Speedway did see some good racing over the final 25 lap sprint to the checkers. The big story of the weekend was the weather. NASCAR was only able to get 87 laps in the books on Sunday. Then they tried for hours to get the track dry so that racing could continue. They finally conceded to the weather at 2am Eastern time and finished the race on Monday afternoon.
Carl Edwards Does Second Backflip In a Row With 2008 Las Vegas Win
Carl Edwards is on a roll in 2008. The 2008 UAW-Dodge 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway marks his second win in a row and catapults Edwards into the first point lead of his career. The win was not without some controversy as Edwards' crew let a tire roll across pit road during a late race pit stop. NASCAR decided not to penalize him which left the door open for him to do his famous post-race backflip.
Kyle Busch Scores First Sprint Cup Win for Toyota
Kyle Busch made history today at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He became the first driver to win a Sprint Cup race for a foreign manufacturer since 1954. Busch had them covered today and cruised to an easy win in the 2008 Kobalt Tools 500.
Jeff Burton Leads Childress Sweep at Bristol Motor Speedway
Bristol Motor Speedway demonstrated today why they are one of the few tracks that still sells out every single event. Today's race had some slow moments as drivers were bracing for the finish. That finish did not disappoint as the last 15 laps saw three different leaders, differing pit strategies and some Bristol beating and banging.
Denny Hamlin Finds Success at Martinsville
The short track of Martinsville Speedway hosted the 2008 Goody's Cool Orange 500 today. The Sprint Cup drivers dodged a near-constant drizzle all day in Martinsville but were able to get the full 500 laps in. Denny Hamlin was out front for the final long green flag run to the finish and was able to hold off a hard-charging Jeff Gordon to claim the win.
Carl Edwards Continues Cookie Cutter Domination With Texas Win
Texas Motor Speedway saw long green flag runs during today's 2008 Samsung 500. Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch ran in the top three for most of the day and settled the race among themselves while the rest of the field was struggling to find the handle on their cars. Drivers battled the track more than each other. This does not make for exciting racing. Carl Edwards made to the checkered flag first for his third victory of 2008.
Jimmie Johnson Stretches Fuel For 2008 Phoenix Win
Phoenix International Raceway hosted NASCAR's finest under the lights for a prime time Saturday night duel in the desert. The second half of the race was interesting as fuel mileage played a key role in the finish. Jimmie Johnson stretched his fuel to the brink and found his way to Victory Lane.
Kyle Busch Takes Talladega for Toyota
The 2008 Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway was a typical Talladega race. With 50 laps to go you could feel the intensity increase. The race finished with two "Big Ones" and a yellow flag finish. Kyle Busch was out front when the final caution flew to claim a Talladega win for Toyota.
Clint Bowyer Claims Classic Richmond Victory
Richmond International Raceway saw Denny Hamlin dominate much of the race and come away empty handed. The first 380 laps of the race didn't have much excitement but this race more than made up for it in the last 20 laps.
Kyle Busch Tames Tough Darlington
Darlington Raceway is known for being tough. "The Track Too Tough to Tame" received new pavement since last season which made the track smoother and much, much faster.Kyle Busch drove hard all night long and dared Darlington to tame him. Kyle bounced it off the wall and received a penalty on pit road but still returned to the lead and ran away with the race.
A.J. Allmendinger Wins 2008 NASCAR Sprint Showdown
The 2008 Sprint Showdown is the last chance for drivers to race their way into the 2008 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. This forty lap event is broken up into two twenty lap segments with a competition yellow in the middle where teams can pit if they choose to. Only the top two drivers make it from the Showdown into the All-Star Race and a shot at $1 million.
Kasey Kahne Claims Coca-Cola 600
The Coca-Cola 600 is the longest race on the NASCAR calendar. This race is a test of endurance and flexibility. It starts under bright sunshine and ends in the dark of night. There were a number of different names at the front tonight. However, for the second week in a row Kasey Kahne was the first driver to reach the finish line.
Kyle Busch Dominates Dover for Fourth 2008 Win
During today's 2008 Best Buy 400 "The Monster Mile" in Dover decided to attack early. An early race wreck damaged many top teams which cleared the track for long green flag runs which dominated the race. The Roush-Fenway Fords dominated the early part of the race but Kyle Busch flexed his muscle once again and ran away with the end of the race to claim his fourth win of 2008.
Kasey Kahne Rules Pocono While Point Leader Kyle Busch Stumbles
Kasey Kahne started on the pole for today's Pocono 500. He wasted little time getting to the front and then stayed there most of the day. Kyle Busch finished his record-setting weekend with a whimper. After racing three days in three different states he ended up in the wall in Pocono and finished 43rd.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Squeezes Enough Fuel For 2008 LifeLock 400 Win
The 208 LifeLock 400 turned into a fuel mileage race. Pit strategy took center stage in the closing laps of this battle. Dale Earnhardt Jr. had enough fuel to survive a green-white-checkers finish and return to Victory Lane in a points race for the first time since 2006.
Kyle Busch Avoids the Wrecks to Claim Infineon Victory
Races at Infineon Raceway are often decided on pit strategy and fuel mileage. The 2008 Toyota / Save Mart 350 instead featured way too many cautions and one driver that simply had them covered. Kyle Busch avoided the wrecks all day long by having the fastest car and using it to stay out front to claim the first road racing win of his career.
Kurt Busch Wins Rain Shortened New Hampshire Race
Kurt Busch's team the right call during today's 2008 Lenox Industrial Tools 301. They left him out when the leaders pitted just before the rain came. Busch was able to hang on for a couple of green flag laps and was out front when the race was called by NASCAR. Juan Pablo Montoya and Kyle Busch were beating and banging during the race. This came to a head under caution when Montoya turned into Kyle and spun him out. Clearly we haven't heard the last of this story yet.
Kyle Busch Survives Wreck Filled Daytona Finish
The 2008 Coke Zero 400 at Daytona gave the restrictor plate racing fans everything that they love. This race featured a photo finish after a green-white-checkers restart which saw Kyle Busch beat Carl Edwards by half a carlength.
Kyle Busch Drives Around Jimmie Johnson in Exciting Chicagoland Finish
Chicagoland Speedway isn't know for its exciting racing. However the 2008 LifeLock.com 400 made up for 265 laps of boredom with a two lap thrilling finish. Kyle Busch lead the most laps but Jimmie Johnson looked like he had the fastest car at the end. Busch simply out-drove Johnson for the final two lap shootout and stole the win.
Tire Problems Plague 2008 Brickyard 400
The 2008 Allstate 400 at the Brickyard was easily the worst race of 2008. Tire problems forced NASCAR to throw a competition caution every nine laps of green flag racing to try to prevent blowouts. This disjointed event was a pathetic excuse for a race.
Carl Edwards Picks Up 2008 Pocono Victory
The 2008 Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 brought the focus of the NASCAR Sprint Cup series back to the great racing and pit strategy that NASCAR is normally known for. Carl Edwards team made all the right calls to claim the win while Mark Martin's team demonstrated just how unforgiving this sport can be.
Kyle Busch Completes 2008 Road Course Sweep
The 2008 Centurion Boats at the Glen demonstrated two basic facts about the 2008 Sprint Cup season. The first is that Kyle Busch is the real deal as he claimed his eighth win of 2008 and completed the road course sweep. The second fact is that NASCAR racing is dangerous even on the relatively slow road courses. This race saw a red flag for a nine-car pileup. David Gilliland took some hard hits but fortunately everyone walked away.
Edwards Closes Chase Gap With Michigan Win
The 2008 3M Performance 400 presented by Bondo at Michigan International Speedway had big implications for the the 2008 Chase. Carl Edwards scored the win to earn ten more bonus points and cut his Chase deficit to just 40 points. At the other end of the top twelve there were big swings in the standings which will likely help determine who will be in the Chase and who will spend the last ten races of 2008 battling for eleventh.
Carl Edwards Uses Bristol Bump-and-Run
Bristol Motor Speedway added another chapter to its storied history tonight. Carl Edwards used the bump-and-run late in the race to claim the victory from Kyle Busch. That incident lead to post-race fireworks as the night race in Bristol once more showed why it is the toughest ticket in NASCAR.
Jimmie Johnson Makes Chase Case in California
Jimmie Johnson demonstrated tonight why he should not be counted out. Johnson showed real strength tonight in dominating the 2008 Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway. Unfortunately he made the race incredibly boring to watch since this race was never in doubt.
Exciting Richmond Race Locks in 2008 Chase Contenders
The 2008 Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway saw great racing all day long. There were many side-by-side battles for the lead during the day and the point battle was in doubt until the end. Jimmie Johnson held off a hard-charging Tony Stewart for the win. At the back of the top twelve Clint Bowyer did exactly what he needed to do today to claim the final Chase qualifying spot.
Greg Biffle Wins First Chase Race of 2008
The first Chase race of the year is gaining a well-deserved reputation for being unpredictable. Last year Clint Bowyer won his first race ever. This year Greg Biffle found Victory Lane for his first win of 2008. Kyle Busch had dominated much of 2008 and came into the 2008 Chase for the Cup as the point leader. That was shortlived though as he had a suspension failure. Kyle Busch had a very long day.
Greg Biffle Takes Exciting 2008 Dover Chase Race
Today's Camping World RV 400 in Dover was one of the best races of 2008. Three Roush-Fenway teammates were mixing it up over the final thirty laps as Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards each held the lead as the laps wound down.
Jimmie Johnson Takes Kansas Win and Chase Lead
Jimmie Johnson looked like he had today's 2008 Camping World RV 400 at Kansas Speedway firmly in hand. However Carl Edwards gave it one last dive on the final lap but couldn't make it stick. This exciting finish saw the top three in points finish 1-2-3 and extend their lead over the rest of the Chasers.
Tony Stewart Dodges Tire Problems to Win 2008 Talladega
The 2008 AMP Energy at Talladega was quite a show. This race had everything. It set records for leaders and lead changes, featured a green-white-checkers finish and a controversial call at the checkered flag where the driver that crossed the finish line first was not awarded the win. If you like restrictor plate racing then this was a nearly perfect race.
