2007 Coca-Cola 600 at Lowes Motor Speedway
The 2007 Coca-Cola 600 is the longest race on the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup schedule. This 600 mile marathon starts in the daylight and ends under the lights. Kasey Kahne swept both Lowes Motor Speedway races in 2006 but Jimmie Johnson has been the dominant force at Lowes for the last four years. Who will come out on top?
2007 NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge at Lowes Motor Speedway
This Saturday night the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge rolls off with $1,000,000 for the winner. This made for television event features a small field, huge purse and short twenty lap segments. This race was created solely to be exciting and it delivers. The NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge is one of NASCAR's "don't miss" events.
2007 Dodge Avenger 500 at Darlington Raceway
This Saturday night the NEXTEL Cup series will visit Darlington for the 2007 Dodge Avenger 500. Darlington is one of the most challenging tracks on the NEXTEL Cup schedule. This weekend the drivers will have the unruly Car of Tomorrow underneath them. The teams have struggled to make the CoT handle well. Nowhere is handling more important than in Darlington. The combination of the tricky track and the untamed Car of Tomorrow should make this race an adventure.
2007 Jim Stewart 400 presented by Crown Royal at Richmond International Raceway
Richmond International Raceway hosts the NEXTEL Cup stars this Saturday night under the lights. Kevin Harvick dominated this race last year before Dale Earnhardt Jr. swooped in for the win. Jeff Gordon has won the last two NEXTEL Cup races, will he make it three in a row this weekend? The Car of Tomorrow is back as NASCAR's best light it up in Richmond for the Jim Stewart 400 presented by Crown Royal.
2007 Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup racing at Talladega Superspeedway means high speeds, tight racing, close finishes and all too often a big multi-car wreck known as "The Big One." Chevrolet has only been beaten once at Talladega in the last sixteen races here. Will Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson or Tony Stewart keep that streak alive or is this the week that Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards or Jamie McMurray break through?
2007 Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway
This Saturday night the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup series takes to the stage for the first primetime race of 2007. Phoenix International Raceway sees the return of the Car of Tomorrow on this narrow one-mile race track. The Car of Tomorrow has provided two great finishes in its two races. Can the COT make even Phoenix an exciting race?
2007 SAMSUNG 500 at Texas Motor Speedway
The SAMSUNG 500 at Texas Motor Speedway will be a big change from the last two NASCAR NEXTEL Cup events. The last two races were held on the short tracks of Bristol and Martinsville with the Car of Tomorrow. This week the NEXTEL Cup stars visit the fastest race track on the schedule with the old car style. Who will come out on top at this race track that has a history of unpredictability?
2007 Goodys Cool Orange 500 at Martinsville Speedway
The 2007 Goody's Cool Orange 500 at Martinsville Speedway gives drivers one more crack at the new Car of Tomorrow on a short track. Some drivers didn't like the way the car felt last week in Bristol. Teams will get another chance this week to work on improving the handling. Martinsville's short, flat racetrack puts a premium on mechanical grip over aerodynamics so teams will have plenty of opportunity to tweak the suspension on these new cars.
2007 Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway
This weekend the 2007 Food City 500 will introduce the Car of Tomorrow to NEXTEL Cup competition for the first time ever. The tight confines of Bristol Motor Speedway will host this historic event. At Bristol the race track determines the racing style more than the car does so I expect that this will be the same old Bristol. Great racing, hot tempers and thrilling finishes are the order of the day at Bristol and the Car of Tomorrow shouldn't change that. Bristol will always be Bristol.
2007 Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway
Atlanta Motor Speedway is the fastest race track on the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup schedule. The qualifying record in Atlanta is 197.478 MPH. With Goodyear's harder tire speeds will be down a little, closer to 190MPH but that is still incredibly fast. Will Atlanta Motor Speedway provide another thrilling finish like we saw in 2005 when Carl Edwards won by just 028 seconds? Or a repeat of 2001 when Kevin Harvick won by just .006 seconds? Sunday's race promises to be yet another barnburner.
2007 UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Las Vegas Motor Speedway was reconfigured since the NEXTEL Cup stars passed under the checkered flag here a year ago. The banking was increased and speeds during testing were way up. This weekend's 2007 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 is a huge unknown. Anything could happen in Vegas this weekend.
2007 Auto Club 500 at California Speedway
Now that the hype of the Daytona 500 is behind us it is time for NASCAR drivers to get down to the business of winning the Championship. The 2007 Auto Club 500 at California Speedway is the first regular race of the season. Races on California's fast, wide 2-mile D-shaped oval put a lot of pressure on the crew chief. The Auto Club 500 is likely to come down to pit strategy and fuel mileage.
