A good idea, but you still have to watch commercials.
This week my digital cable provider offered a free one-race preview of NASCAR's new pay-per-view
service provided by inDemand. While this idea has some real potential, the current offering simply
isn't worth the money.
They offered 5 fairly well chosen cars to cover. At the start of the race in Michigan the in car camera
channels were on Dale Jarrett (on the pole), Michael Waltrip (started second), Dale Earnhardt Jr.
(started third), Sterling Marlin (the points leader) and Elliot Sadler (no idea why they chose him).
Later, when Sterling was a lap down they switched his channel over to Johnny Benson who was charging
towards the front. Overall, they made pretty good decisions about who to show.
My big complaint about the coverage? The commercials! All seven channels go to commercial at the same
time as the regular network and show the exact same commercials. There is no escaping them!
I would be willing to spend money on a pay-per-view NASCAR subscription if it were commercial-free.
However, as NASCAR In Car by inDemand is now my $100 is better spent elsewhere.
