Driver #8
Dale Earnhardt Jr's new book
Driver #8
by Dale Earnhardt Jr. / Jade Gurss

Guide Rating -

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is one of the biggest stars in NASCAR Winston Cup racing. In his new book "Driver #8" Little 'E' gives readers an all-access pass into his world. If you've ever wondered what kind of superstar life these guys lead this book will let you follow Jr. around for a full year.

Race-by-race Jr tells stories of the ups and downs of the 2000 Winston Cup season in his own words. Each chapter covers one week of the season. His very first Daytona 500, his first win, racing while sick in Michigan, high-speed bar stools, the tragic losses of Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin, getting banged around by the black #3 car (also known as "Dad"), flirting with the Bud Girls, battling with Matt Kenseth for the rookie title and much, much more are all covered in Dale's own words. This is truly an engaging book for any race fan.

I have never been a big fan of Dale Jr, but I really found this book hard to put down. Little E really calls 'em the way he sees 'em in this book. In Indianapolis he says "The Brickyard has been a great success with the fans, but the thing is... it's not great racing." I'll bet that's not popular with Tony George.

One warning here, this book may not be appropriate for the younger race fans as it is jammed full of words that I know I'd rather not have my kid read.

Overall, this is a great read. If you are a Jr. fan you must read it. If you're just a race fan it's still a great book. As I said before, I'm not a Jr. fan but I honestly found this book hard to put down.
