Dateline: 12/14/98As the holiday shopping season is starting to reach a fever pitch here is a chance for you to let me do the hard work for you. Rest assured that any race fan would love to unwrap these great NASCAR gifts.
At the top of any race fan's christmas list has got to be a trip to one of the many racing schools. Who wouldn't love the opportunity to jump into the drivers' seat of a Winston Cup race car at a place like Charlotte, Bristol or Daytona? Prices range from about $100 to ride with a professional driver up to a full 3-day racing school which runs closer to $2,500. My favorite of the group (In case my wife is reading this ;) ) is Andy Hillenburg's FastTrack Driving School.
Next on my Christmas list is a pair of tickets to a NASCAR race. There are a number of different places to buy tickets. You should always start by calling the track you are interested in directly first. If they are sold out then you need to get a little bit more creative, you can start by searching for tickets on the internet, and then as a last resort, there are always tickets available through the professional scalpers (although I must warn you that they will charge extremely high prices).
Next, is the NASCAR gift that keeps coming year round. Buy a gift subscription to the NASCAR Scene. This weekly NASCAR magazine covers Winston Cup, Busch Grand National and the Craftsman Truck series in depth every week. If your race fan likes to stay on top of NASCAR then this is a sure hit. I know that folks on my Christmas list love to receive this year in and year out.
Besides these great items there is a giant list of NASCAR Collectibles available. Hats, shirts, jackets, die-cast cars, and even real NASCAR racing tires all make great gifts for the NASCAR fanatic. If you own a PC, buy your race fan Nascar Racing 1999 Edition and let them race door-to-door against the best in NASCAR. Finally, for a great stocking stuffer you can always stop by the NASCAR video store and pick up some movies and videos.
