Top Row Seat - Beat The Winter Blues

Dateline: 12/02/97

There are exactly 11 weeks between the 1997 race in Japan and the 1998 Bud Shootout (formerly the Busch Clash) in Daytona. For the NASCAR race fan this is the longest most dreary part of the whole year as we try to survive without the weekly sound of forty-three 750 horsepower engines reving at 8000rpm running inches apart at 190mph.

This week I've dug up a couple of things to help get us through until Daytona.

Thank God For Videotape

Beginning at 9pm on Christmas Eve ESPN2 will run a NASCAR marathon including 8 races running 27 hours. Then beginning New Year's Eve at 6:30pm ESPN2 will be back at it showing 10 races back-to-back over 31 consecutive hours. These will be great NASCAR moments from the early eighties through this season.

And don't forget the Winston Cup awards banquet on ESPN December 5th at 9pm. With next year marking the 50th anniversary of NASCAR look for some special moments during this year's show, including the unveiling of the special NASCAR 50th Anniversary logo for next year.

Prepare For NROS

If you own Papyrus' NASCAR Racing 2 you can get your NASCAR fix by driving your PC. And if you'd like to join NASCAR and drive in an officially sanctioned division now is the time to start practicing for the NASCAR Racing Online Series.

I personally love this sim and adding the excitement of racing against 20 other real people has me totally hooked. Whenever I need a NASCAR fix to help get me through the winter you will be able to find me racing on TEN. Feel free to say hi. (SteveMc on TEN)

Stop By Here

Through it all I'll be updating this website regularly. In the off-season I'm planning on recapping some of my more interesting trips to various races, some features on great drivers, late breaking silly season developments, and lots of other great NASCAR information to help you get through to Daytona.

If you've got a suggestion for a topic you'd like to see me cover during the off-season please feel free to drop me a note. I'm always open to suggestions.

It will certainly be a long eleven weeks until we get to hear the engines roar under the green flag in Daytona, but together we can survive.
