Top Row Seat - Talladega

Dateline: 10/17/99

Talladega served as the final restrictor plate race of the 1999 season and the last real threat to Dale Jarrett's Championship but it was all "Intimidator" as Dale Earnhardt cruised home for the win.

The Little Picture

"The Man In Black" once again staked his claim as the undisputed master of the superspeedway by easily holding off Dale Jarrett and a hard charging Ricky Rudd to sweep the 1999 Talladega events. Dale Earnhardt has a natural feel for drafting that allows him to make the perfect decision to be in the right place at the right time nearly every time.

The Big Picture

Let me be one of the first to congratulate Dale Jarrett on winning the 1999 Winston Cup Championship. With only four more races to go Dale Jarrett has a commanding 246 point lead over Bobby Labonte. That equates to nearly two DNFs for the rock solid Robert Yates Racing #88 team. It just is not going to happen now that all of the short-track races and restrictor plate races are now behind us. Not only did Jarrett maintain his lead this weekend but he strengthened his strangle hold on the title with his strong second place finish.

Again, Congratulations to Dale Jarrett and the entire Ford Quality Care team. You truly earned it.

Vote in the poll: Who's the best restrictor plate racer of all time?

Do you think plate races should still be outlawed? What is your solution to the problem? Is there even a real problem? Tell the world what you think on the bulletin board. Or you can talk about all things NASCAR in the chat room where I stop by frequently.
