Whoever Said?

I hope the people who say that NASCAR drivers are not athletes were watching the race on Sunday. Wrestling a 3,400-pound racecar around a ½ mile paperclip in 140+ degree in-car temperatures would wear out any of those stick-and-ball guys that ESPN kept popping into the corner of the screen during the race.

Slightly Disturbing

Is anyone else curious as to why Ricky Rudd's RPM Motorsports team had a bunch of makeup cases lying around the hauler? Did we learn a little bit too much about the crew behind the #10 this week. :)

Also, why use makeup cases when simple ice packs would work? If anybody knows the answer to this mystery please stop by the bulletin board and share the answer with the world. I've been getting some e-mail asking me why and I haven't got a clue.

Warm Fuzzy

This week's "all is tight with the world" update was given by Rich Bickle during his post-race interview. His "victory lane" speech was a refreshing change from the weekly Roushdrick driver interview. Congratulations to Rich for breaking through the frustration and scoring his first career top five.

I've heard the ugly rumor that Cale Yarborough is considering throwing in the towel and selling his Winston Cup operation in favor of retirement and fishing his days away on the lake. I can only imagine the frustration of trying to run a woefully underfunded Winston Cup program. Constant sponsor worries and the frustration of seeing the talented drivers that you invest time, energy, equipment and money into only to see them lured away to better funded teams after they gain some valuable experience has got to be an unbelievable drain on your emotions and finances.

I thoroughly hope that he finds the strength and funds needed to keep the team going. NASCAR without Cale just would not be the same. While we are at it, somebody go give Bobby Allison a truckload of money to start up a Winston Cup team.

NASCAR needs an Allison.
