Top Row Seat - Sears Point
Dateline: 06/28/99There was a time not long ago where Jeff Gordon's critics loved to point out the fact that he had never won on a road course. Once he started winning road races no one has been able to beat him. It's safe to say that Gordon has silenced his critics.... for now.
Since winning his first road race ever at Watkins Glen two years ago Gordon has been unstoppable. He won back-to-back races at Sears Point in 1998 and 1999 and he will be the two-time defending champion at Watkins Glen when the Winston Cup series returns there in August.
Jeff Gordon and the Rainbow Warriors have once again demonstrated the heart of a champion by working tenaciously at road racing until they have mastered it.
Still Making It Up As They Go
Will someone show me the spot in the rulebook where NASCAR is allowed to throw a red flag whenever they feel like it? NASCAR needs to standardize on "competition" red flags so that they are thrown predictably and consistantly.
Giving the fans the best show possible is a great idea, but put it in the rules like the truck series has so that everyone knows what to expect. It's clear that a Craftsman Truck Series race will never end under caution and everyone knows that, can plan for it and knows what will happen next.
I strongly believe that NASCAR is focusing too much on the "show" at the expense of fair and honest competition. This is a sport not professional wrestling. Throwing the red flag may be a good idea, but let's add it to the rules so that it is consistently enforced.
Are you in favor of "competition" red flags? Do you like the truck series' rules? Or maybe you think that "that's racing" and you take what you get? Let the world know what you think on the bulletin board. Or you can talk about all things NASCAR in the chat room Wednesday night from 8-9pm EST.
