NOTE: This wheel is no longer produced and may be difficult to locate.

The Thrustmaster Super Sport wheel/pedal combination can add a lot of realism to your racing for a very small price.

The Looks

The rubber coated 10" wheel with four buttons on the spokes and two paddle shifters poking out underneath looks like it means business.

The pedal unit has a realistic looking long thin gas pedal and a square brake pedal.

Together the two units look like a serious racing combination.

Convenience

Installation was a breeze. Thrustmaster's generic wheel setup utility worked like a champ for me.

The Super Sport wheel has the same "quick" clamping system as the Charger. Slip it in place, and swing the handle down to lock it in place. Unfortunately, the pedals didn't stay in place for me very well. I had to put something behind the pedals to keep them from slipping around during the test.

The Feel

The rubber coated wheel was comfortable in my hands and provided an excellent grip. The gear-shift paddles are well placed and comfortable to reach.

Again the pedal unit let me down. The gas and brake pedals are too upright to be comfortable. I found that after a couple of races that my ankle and knee hurt from holding my foot near the brake pedal. Racing at Talladega was a relief from the pain because I didn't have to worry about the brakes.

Other Features

None.

Overall

A good entry level wheel but I have some concerns about it's long term racing comfort. The wheel unit scores much better than the pedals do.

UPDATE: I've now spent many, many hours behind the Super Sport. While the wheel is one of the most comfortable to drive of any on this list, the pedals leave my ankles tired and sore after a few hours of intense action.

I'm torn on this wheel. I wish I could use this wheel with the Logitech pedals. That would be my ideal for comfortable racing.

Pros

  • Comfortable Rubber Grip
  • Well placed paddles and buttons

Cons

  • Pedals too upright
  • Pedals wouldn't stay in place

Rating: 61/100
