Dateline: 3/29/99The Heidi Race
Race fans who waited out the rain delay on Saturday to watch the Busch Grand National race on CBS were in for quite a shock. CBS cut away from the race before the end so that they could show an hour and a half of NCAA pre-game. The NCAA basketball game did not start until 5:30pm Eastern yet CBS cut away from the live race at 4:00pm.
Between cutting off the race on Saturday, subjecting fans to Ken Squire's inane ramblings on Sunday and packing an unbelievable amount of commercials into both broadcasts, CBS has once again reminded us all why ESPN, TNN, ABC and TBS all are better racing networks. If you aren't going to cover the sport properly then let another network do it.
CBS accepts comments on their broadcasts via the feedback form on their website.
Goodyear Has Bad Day
Last week the Winston Cup drivers were unanimous in their praise of Goodyear. This week Jeff Gordon, Mike Skinner and Mark Martin all had tire problems that ended their day. Goodyear has been quick to point out that most of the tires were fine, however any time that three top names all have the same problem you have to look at the common factor.
Goodyear typically does a great job for NASCAR, they should just admit that this was not their best effort and put the engineers to work to improve their tires for next year.
What is your solution to the network television dilemma? Think the tire problems were caused by driver error? Stop by the bulletin boards and let the world know what you think. Or you can swing by the chat room Wednesday night from 8-9pm EST to talk about this and anything else NASCAR.
