The 2004 NASCAR Winston Cup schedule is going to look a lot different than it does this year, that much NASCAR has told us for sure. What no one knows for sure is just how different and what kind of changes to expect.

Here are two things that I really hope that NASCAR works on for the 2004 season and beyond.

Break up the 21 week NASCAR marathon

The last couple of years the NASCAR Winston Cup season has ended with 21 weeks straight without an off-week. This is brutal on the teams who must work flat out from July through November. It also doesn't allow for any serious rainouts or other postponements. So any race that needs to be rescheduled ends up running on Thanksgiving weekend.

Since NASCAR has already announced significant changes for next season it shouldn't be too difficult for them to leave an open weekend in there somewhere to break up that marathon.

No more YAWN tracks!

Please NASCAR! I don't know how many more 1.5 to 2 mile tri-ovals and 'D' ovals I can take! If you are going to give out races to some new tracks can we please have some variety? Lets see some more tracks under a mile added to the schedule.

How many Charlotte and Michigan type tracks are there already on the schedule? I don't know if I can stand any more. NASCAR needs more variety in its races.
