NASCAR Crystal Ball
Dateline: 2/2/99The long off-season is behind us and NASCAR racing is back, let's take a look at what NASCAR will have in store for 1999.
Let's begin at the beginning. The winner of the Daytona 500 is Bobby Labonte. His strong restrictor plate program and proven ability to be at the front when it matters are going to combine to put him in victory lane. And even more importantly he's got the number one thing that it takes to win Daytona, friends. With both a brother and a teammate in the field with him Bobby will likely have someone behind him to help him when he needs it.
Some miscellaneous predictions include: Tony Stewart is the 1999 Rookie Of The Year. (You can find out why here) The No Bull 5 in 1999 will be collected twice as Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin will each get one. Mark Martin will also collect the most Bud poles for 1999. On the Busch side, Matt Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt Jr. will duel again down to the wire with Little 'E' taking his second BGN championship as he prepares to go Cup racing in 2000. On the Craftsman Truck side Jack Sprague will find those extra few points that he needed last year and pick up that series' big paycheck.
But the one that everybody cares about is the Winston Cup Champion for 1999. Last year Mark Martin did everything he needed to do to win the Winston Cup except beat Jeff Gordon. This year it will be those two down to the wire again, only this time Mark Martin is going to make one less mistake and finally break the Rick Hendrick stranglehold on the head table in New York City.
Disagree? Think Jeff Gordon will check off "Dynasty" this year? Think Buckshot Jones will grab the Rookie Of The Year honors? Stop by the bulletin boards and let me know what you think. Or you can swing by the chat room Wednesday night from 8-9pm EST to talk about this and anything else NASCAR.
