Top Row Seat - 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup Series Primer
Dateline: 01/25/2000
The 2000 Winston Cup season is just a few weeks away as the Bud Shootout is scheduled to give race fans their first taste of NASCAR on February 13th. But there have been a number of changes in teams and driver combinations, some new sponsors and a fresh crop of rookies. Here is everything you need to be ready for the 2000 Winston Cup season.
Before you strap in for the season you might want to look over the 2000 Winston Cup schedule from ESPN. The most striking thing about the new schedule is the lack of changes. No new tracks, and no real shuffling of the schedule makes for some long overdue consistency in the teams' travel plans for the season.
With new tracks popping up across the country don't expect this trend to last very long.
The next thing you need to know is who is driving what car. This information you can get right from NASCAR Online's Who's Sitting Where page. This site highlights all of the changes in driver, sponsor and significant crew changes and will help you know the answer when somebody asks you who is driving the #42 car this season. (the answer is Kenny Irwin)
Now that you know where everybody is the next thing to watch out for are the new paint schemes. From Jeff Gordon's special paint job for Daytona to the new #27 Viagra car that Jeff Fuller will drive you can see all the cars and their 2000 colors at Jayski's 2000 Paint Scheme page. With a lot of photos from the Winston Cup Preview show this is the best place to see the new paint jobs.
And finally, now that you have all the basics down you might want to join (or start) a discussion about the stellar crop of rookies battling it out for the 2000 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year honors. You can find a thorough look into the rookie race as well as a great discussion of the rookie battle on the bulletin board.
Missing some vital piece of information? Want to talk about the new coolest paint jobs? Blast off on the bulletin board. Or you can talk about all things NASCAR in the chat room where I stop by frequently.
