Definition: A starting spot awarded to a driver who did not qualify for the race based on his speed. Starting spots 37-43 during each NASCAR race are awarded via this system.

Pronunciation: pro vis uh nal • (noun)

Examples: He messed up during his qualifying run so he'll have to take a provisional to get into the race.
