For the second year in a row the biggest change to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series calendar involves the Kansas Speedway repaving project. Last year, in order to allow the new Kansas track surface the maximum amount of time to cure NASCAR moved the spring Kansas race earlier in the season and pushed the fall race deeper into the schedule. Now that the project is complete Kansas and Talladega both return to their traditional fall weekends on the calendar.

Both Kansas and Talladega will keep their Spring dates from 2012. Kansas will host the series on April 21st, 2013 while Talladega keeps its new date the first weekend in May. The October dates have switched back so Kansas' October 6th date puts it back to the fourth Chase race and Talladega moves deeper into the Chase. This year the biggest wildcard race in the Chase will run October 20th when Talladega hosts the sixth race in the Chase.

The entire rest of the Sprint Cup calendar remains essentially unchanged. The only other change at all is that in order to keep the first Martinsville race as the first Sunday in April the traditional NASCAR sprint open weekend will come before the Martinsville race instead of after it like it did in 2012.

The other open weekend on the 2013 schedule is July 21st right before ESPN takes over the coverage for the the Brickyard 400.
