Best battle in motorsports as any of five drivers could lead after the next race

Too many NASCAR fans are in danger of missing out on the best battle in all of motorsports. The NASCAR Busch Grand National (BGN) series is in the midst of a classic five-way battle royale for the championship. Brian Vickers, David Green, Jason Keller, Ron Hornaday and Scott Riggs are all just 44 points apart for the title.

Last weekend the series ran Memphis Motorsports Park and four of the top five points positions changed hands. Hendrick driver and 2004 NEXTEL Cup Rookie of the Year candidate Brian Vickers lead the most laps and hung on for a fifth place finish to take the point lead over David Green who could only manage nineteenth.

Second place finisher Jason Keller jumped from fifth to third in the overall standings and Scott Riggs finished twelfth and fell two places to fifth in the standings. Ron Hornaday's forth place race finish allowed him to maintain his fourth place points position.

Now the BGN teams will hook back up with the Winston Cup teams for the last four races on their schedule. The remaining Saturday races in Atlanta, Phoenix, Rockingham and Homestead will determine the 2003 NASCAR Busch Series champion.

Only forty-four points now separate the top five in points and any one of those drivers can leave the next race in Atlanta with the point lead. The tension in the pits as these guys try to win a championship is incredible. The strategy and agony going into every decision on and off the track is amazing. The Busch series is, by far, the best racing available and every NASCAR should be watching. This is as good as NASCAR racing gets.

By The Way...

Anyone arguing that the current NASCAR point system needs to be revised need look no further than the Busch series. Why would anyone change a system that can produce a thrilling five-way battle like this?
