For most of us, The NASCAR Racing series from Papyrus is as close as we will ever get to racing door-to-door with Dale Earnhardt, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon and the rest of the Winston Cup crew. Having the right steering wheel for your needs, budget and skill level can help you maximize your enjoyment of your PC racing time.

Assess Your Needs

In order to choose the best steering wheel you need to take a look at what your needs are in a wheel.

What is your budget?

This is probably going to play the largest role in choosing an appropriate wheel for you. There are some decent wheels available for less than $100, but if you are able to spend more you will be able to get higher quality, feature rich wheels that can improve your racing enjoyment. These days the highest end wheels can approach $2000.

What type of racing do you do?

If your only racing is to play Need For Speed every now and then you will want a different wheel than the person who races in seven different online leagues, one for every day of the week.

The type of game that you normally play makes a difference too. For example, if you race mostly ovals such as NASCAR and Dirt Track Racing then you may want to consider a larger diameter wheel. Road racers will probably want a smaller diameter wheel to better simulate those real-world cockpits.
