Using the Magellan 750M GPS

Using the Magellan 750M

Lets Go Racing!

I received the unit the day before I was getting ready to leave for Charlotte for the 600. I was planning on leaving from Western Pennsylvania, spending the night in Winston-Salem, NC and then on into the track the next morning.

After the five-minute calibration routine I entered in the hotel's address and a minute or so later it had calculated the route for me and asked me to "Please proceed to the highlighted route" and we were off.

The route that it chose was exactly the same as I would have except for one thing. The 750M doesn't know about I-74 in northern North Carolina that connects I-77 to NC52. If I had followed the GPS's directions I would still have gotten to my hotel, but it would have taken me a little longer. It helps to be able to apply a "sanity check" on the 750M's directions, but if you are in a truly unfamiliar area you can still trust the unit to get you where you are going on a reasonable route.

I have been through Winston-Salem a few times but have never spent any time there. I arrived just in time for dinner but had no idea where to go. I always love Bennigan's potato soup so just for the fun of it I went to "Points of Interest" and searched by name for Bennigan's.

As it turned out there was one just a couple of miles away, press enter and it calculated my route and took me there. After dinner I wanted to kill some time, I had asked my waitress if there was a park nearby but she didn't know. I asked the 750M where the nearest park was and let it lead me a couple of miles to a very nice park where I could work off that bowl of potato soup. All that time I never really paid much attention to where I was or where I was going because I had the 750M to get me back to my hotel. It's strange, but having the Magellan 750M with you really is comforting when you are in an unfamiliar area.

The next morning I used the "Points of Interest" button to find "Charlotte Motor Speedway" (guess they didn't catch the name change) and again, it chose the same route I would have. I got a little later start into the track then I had planned on and traffic was beginning to back up at the main exit off of I-85 so I went sailing on past. The unit then said "Please proceed to the highlighted route" a couple times and then "Calculating new route." It then lead me very nicely to the next exit and back to the track where I slid into my camping spot without having to sit in traffic. Very cool!

I know my way around Charlotte Motor Speedway a little bit, but even if I didn't the Magellan 750M still would have gotten me where I wanted to go.

After the race, I attempted to head home before all of the turn restrictions were lifted. I wasn't able to turn the way that the 750M wanted me to so the unit quickly recalculated and gave me a new route. When I still wasn't able to turn where it wanted me to it just recalculated again. No stress, no hassle, no frantic searching through the maps and trying to figure out exactly where you are, the 750M just adjusts and tells you what to do next.

In Summary, Wow!

If you spend time chasing racing then I highly recommend the Magellan 750M. In fact, if you spend any amount of time behind the wheel, especially if you frequently travel alone or to new places, then the 750M will quickly pay for itself in enhanced safety and reduced stress. No longer do you have to divide your attention between the map and the traffic, no more wondering if you missed a turn, with the 750M you know where you are and where you are going all the time. This is cool technology that truly makes your life easier.
