What Makes You A NASCAR Fan?

By , About.com GuideDecember 23, 2009

Follow me on:

Throughout the season we all find reasons at various times to complain about NASCAR.  Whether it is restrictor plate racing, the COT, the television coverage, The Chase or any number of other complaints that NASCAR fans have there always seems to be something that we wish NASCAR would improve.

In the spirit of the season lets hear some good things about NASCAR.   What is it that you love about NASCAR?  With so many other activities competing for your attention, why are you a NASCAR fan?

(1) Jan Olson says:

Merry Christmas! Why am I a NASCAR fan? Well as a 60+, college educated woman that is probably strange in and of itself. I am a fan because of the family orientation of the sport. We as fans are so much a part of the sport unlike others where the fans are simply on the sidelines. Fans have great access. We get to know the drivers and their families. That makes us feel more a part of the NASCAR family. While I also love baseball, I never miss anything on racing, while I do miss games. And just like baseball it weaves itself through the history of this nation. From the South and its origins right up to my state of Washington. Love it and can’t wait for Daytona!

1. Because I can camp/tailgate with my friends for a week before the race.
2. Because I can bring my own beer/food to the track.
3. Because I love shopping at the haulers.
4. Because we can party in the campgrounds after the race.
5. Because there are 43 drivers that are all going for the trophy, and you never know who will prevail until the end of the race.

48 reasons starting with and ending with Jimmie, Chad and the Lowes #48 team.

The co-opertition

The Speed

The teamwork

The fans

The sponsors

The history

The announcers

The chance that Kyle Busch will put himself into the wall

The only thing I don’t like about NASCAR is the short season…

And the way that rain seems to follow the series across the country…

NASCAR is easy for us to identify with. Most of us drive; few of us play the stick and ball sports. Most of us still have a love affair with the automobile. NASCAR is an extention of that love.

(7) Badbob says:

I enjoy the excitement of the competition. Some of the drivers talk a big talk and know that they don’t have a chance in hell to win the race. The only one that can talk the talk and back it up is Kyle Busch. That is because he drives every race all out and watching over the last year, he is the only one that does. Oh sure, Jimmie Johnson won the Championship and that is because he did not drive all out in every race. It is obvious when he backs off. Merry Christmas to All. IN GO WE TRUST

I love the roar of 43 engines on the same piece of real estate, the smell of the fuel and of course the smell of burnt rubber !!! Take my money and my spouse but DO NOT take my racin’ !!! LOL !!!

Personal contact with drivers, a chance for an autograph
Comraderie of fans, always playful teasing each other about favorite.
other sports only have two teams worth of fans in parking lot or stands and one is home team, its not good to be on wrong side
Fans and drivers pro-{late & COT con

(13) Nascar4Joey says:

I love Nascar racing for everything it embodies, the excitement, the crowds that love it like I do, the cars, the noise, the speed, the tailgating and not to forget, the good lookin drivers and the challenges they each face during each race. The controvery is always fun, too! I am always intrigued and wish somehow that I could sit on the passenger side of Dale Jr’s 88 car during a race to see exactly what it’s like to be right in the thick of things during a race. That would be just AWESOME!!!

(15) Todd says:

I love the roar of the engines, the competition, the teams, the chess matches played out at 200mph, the excitement of watching my driver win…

But the Victory Junction Gang Camp, Jimmie Johnson Foundation, Jeff Gordon Foundation, and all of the other charities that give back to the communities that support NASCAR — it speaks of their heart and that keeps me around.

Also, their insistence on both an invocation, the national anthem and a show of the US military at every event.

(16) nascar4joey says:

I have to agree with Todd. Nascar is the one sport that is not afraid to seek out God (as a corporate body) before the race, and I for one love and support that!

(17) Bryan Gross says:

Nascar is such a great sport. it is really entertaining and i love the 2, 3, and sometimes 4 wide racing. They drive around those tracks at 180 plus mph and do it with pride they put their lifes on the line every weekend to entertain their fans and i respect and admire them for that. All the other sports do what they can to entertain their fans buts nascar and the driver and their families are heads above the rest.

(18) Dave H says:

#1 Jimmy Johnson
#2 Jeff Gordon
#3 Mark Martin

and there are many more drivers that I cheer for, but they are my favorite.

All in all, we have a local dirt track, a local go cart track, and I just love racing.

Go NASCAR …. and thanks for keeping it going.
