Chase Tightens As Jimmie Johnson Stumbles in Texas

Sunday November 8, 2009

The one thing that is most predictable in NASCAR is that it is unpredictable.   Jimmie Johnson came to Texas Motor Speedway with a seemingly insurmountable lead in the points.  It took just three laps for over half of that lead to be erased as Johnson crashed and spent over an hour in the garage getting his car fixed.  When all the dust settled Mark Martin was just 73 points behind with two races to go.

Kyle Busch dominated much of the race but left the win for his brother when he fell 2 1/2 laps short on fuel and had to dive onto pit road.  Kurt remained mostly overlooked even after the race as The Chase was the big story of the weekend.

The top twelve are now:

  1. Jimmie Johnson
  2. Mark Martin -73
  3. Jeff Gordon -112
  4. Kurt Busch -171
  5. Tony Stewart -178
  6. Juan Montoya -236
  7. Greg Biffle -247
  8. Denny Hamlin -322
  9. Ryan Newman -324
  10. Kasey Kahne -399
  11. Carl Edwards -440
  12. Brian Vickers -520

Well Gordon threw another one away! He had his chance but couldn’t find his way around the track.
I think he has lost his ability to drive or his crew chief sucks. Maybe he can get a job announcing
the races like the other washed up drivers.
At lest Mark has an excuse he’s getting old but he gives it hiss all.

Grates to Kurt and the guy he made a millionare.

To take a car that was bent on three corners and come back out and finish just shows why the dream team will win a 4th championship.

Jeff Gordon lost me as a fence fan after hearing that he was the one that asked NASCAR to ruin racing by stopping the bump draft!!

Cry Baby needs to have his crew chief build a bumper that wont bend and cause his areo problem’s.

73 points 2 to go isn’t a bad place to be for Jimmie, looks like Mark cant and wont get it done yet again!!

I know this is About.com and all, but us NASCAR fans can at least submit accurate information for ABOUT users that might not know anything about our sport.

(1) Article headline is misleading: Johnson didn’t stumble, he was involved in an accident, not his fault, ruining his race.

Overgeneralizing/opinion, not facts:

(2) Gordon didn’t throw away the race, either. Despite starting on pole, he didn’t have a car capable of running with the leaders as the race progressed. Not like he was running first and hit the wall because of missing his marks or something he did intentionally. (But, something is troubling in that he is nowhere near his former winning self.)

(3) Not all NASCAR announcers are washed up drivers. Some are/were past champions, drivers or crew chiefs, now retired. Some are/were mediocre drivers you might now call washed up. (And some NASCAR announcers have no NASCAR experience at all – to include perky white blondes in the pits and a former basketball player, forced upon NASCAR viewers to meet the politically-correct utopia of diversity.)

What a coincidence…

fans are at their lowest with Johnson’s huge lead and then all of a sudden he finally has a bad race…

and look at that.

The chase is all closed up again for an exciting 2 race shootout for the championship.

Coincidence?

You decide…

I think this is a wonderful site, for everyone/anyone to voice his/her opinion!! I love reading them.

3infdivfan———-you are brilliant!!! I enjoy your comments, I was wondering the same……I agree whole heartedly!
and
Sabby funny you state “coincidence” I had the gut feeling the whole thing may have been planned or staged.
This is the first year I have followed NASCAR to the extent of watching every race, I have been a Lowes fan for years, turns out to be a Jimmie FAN. The team has been far from flawless, (as everyone claims)
screw ups with Mr CrewChief, running out of gas how may races this year?? (too many) and oh yeah the screw ups in the pits??? 4 tires when everyone else got 2 tires, slow in comparison to other pit stops.
However, the driver is an exceptional driver, when the car is running right.
I’d like to know why the booooo’ssss?? What has Jimmie done to deserve the boo’s? Cause he’s from California? Cause he’s hopefully going to win #4?? I pray!!!
