The Chase's Only Short Track Battle

Thursday October 22, 2009

2009 Tums Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville SpeedwayThis weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup series visits NASCAR's oldest and shortest speedway.  Martinsville Speedway will host the 2009 Tums Fast Relief 500 on Sunday.

If you are looking for a winner this weekend the favorite has never been easier to identify. Jimmie Johnson has won five of the last six Martinsville races and three of the last five 2009 Sprint Cup events.  He currently leads the points and is on top of the NASCAR world.

You may not like him but for whatever reason Jimmie Johnson and his team have NASCAR figured out better than any of his competitors at the moment.

I believe Jr should leave Hendrick Motorsports and have his own team, like “Jr Motorsports”; maybe take another driver for his team just as Tony Stewart did. Maybe Danica Patrick? Well, maybe not yet for her. She’d be too green in a cup car right now. I honestly think there is too much pressure on him at Hendrick’s. That’s my guess, anyway. He isn’t keeping up with Johnson and Gordon, and perhaps that’s too intimidating for him. Jr is one of my two very favorite drivers, and I am certainly not saying he’s a wimp, but I just don’t think he’s showing his “true self”. Watch him if/when he breaks away from Hendrick Motorsports. Then I think his competitiveness will shine through. He’s not over the hill yet. He just needs to get back to his ole’ self.

I say David Stremme wrecks (which is what he does, right?) taking out JJ early on, Mark Martin wins and takes back the #1 spot in the chase.

I know, I know, but I can hope can’t I?

I just wonder how long it will take Nascar to get rid of this old bestway. The only one of the original tracks left in the schedule. Nascar needs to get back to it’s roots and get rid of all of those new and expensive tracks in the west and come back home to east of the Mississippi river where the real fans are. When was the last time any of those tracks were sold out??????, never. They are so damn big that there are not enough people to fill them.

Maybe JR is intimidated Trish. THAT IS because he is with the Big Boys now. I can only conclude that his career is based on the name. Why can 3 and sometimes 4 (the number 25) do good and not JR? Not for lack of feedback or equipment.

I think that Gordon will have another top 5 finish and I would like to see Derrick Cope have a nice solid top 10 at the least

Nascar and BadBob

NASCAR is a family owned business that began in the late 40’s. The roots of the business go a bit deeper to the 20’s and 30’s when it was discovered that Daytona Florida was the place to set world record land speeds. This made Daytona the premier place to be for racing enthusiasts from all over.
It was during this same time that prohibition was in full swing and stock car racing was in its infancy. You see bootleggers were known to build small fast cars to outrun the police with their illegal cargo. Bootleggers became notorious for lightening their cars and modifying the suspension for better handling as they raced down winding mountain roads. The business was not just about manufacturing and distributing booze, rednecks needed to practice driving skills and mechanical modifications to stay one-step ahead of Johnny Law!

A Mississippian came home and found his house on fire, he rushed next door, telephoned the fire department and shouted, “Hurry over here. My house is on fire!”

“OK,” replied the fireman, “how do we get there?”

“Shucks, don’t you still have those big red trucks?”

Just for you BadBob, You must Be a RedNeck:)

When are people going to realize that this is scriped as the Jimmie Johnson show, who else can speed on pitroad and not get penalized? No more BS about the positioning of scoring loops on pit road, anyone else would have been penalized.
