Vote A Driver Into the 2009 All-Star Race

By , About.com GuideMay 11, 2009

Follow me on:

This Saturday night the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race will roll off under the lights at Lowes Motor Speedway with the winner claiming over $1 million. 18 drivers are already locked in while two more will race their way into the field on Saturday night. The final qualifier will be the driver that receives the most votes from the fans who has not qualified for the race any other way.

You can vote early and vote often for Boris Said, Joey Logano, Bill Elliott (or any of the 50 other eligible drivers) as there is no limit on the number of votes you can cast. Voting remains open until Saturday.

Looking that list over, two names jump out at me as not only obvious choices, they both have the talent and equipment to win.

-Brian Vickers (83)

-Jamie McMurray (26)

David Regan as a sleeper in the 6 car.

I think because of the great potential that we might get some more really good TV commercial material the only driver to choose is the good #55

I truly thought about Mikey and the NAPA #55. I like the guy, and he is a definate asset to NASCAR. I just think the driver vote needs to be about the most deserving driver based on merit and ability to perform. I voted for Kyle Petty a few years back, and still feel good about that choice, based on his wonderful efforts for NASCAR and his Victory Junction Gang. (To this day I still contribute to often as I can). Kyle was a good media pick, but not a real good race pick. I thought of Bill Elliot on this one. Sounds good. He was, and still is a great driver. But Bill’s time has passed and he will probably be the first to admit that to you. Don’t get me wrong, Awesome Bill From Dawsonville ain’t no push over, but he also knows reality. Let’s vote in the best driver available to compete for the win!

I myself belive that Joey laganno deserves to be the pick he has shown that as a rookie he has the desire to win and compete, and the other thing the allstar race won`t be the same witout home depot in the race

If the allstar race is for the fans and everyone who loves nascar. Why is it on speed channel? A lot of fans do not get speed channel. Thanks for your time. Donna Bowers. Greeneville TN 37745

OK on Joey…I can see that logic.

Here is logic I can’t see:
How can you be a true race fan and not have speed channel???!!! Qualifying, practice, in depth reporting, pre-race, post race. HOLY FLY PAPER BATMAN, it’s not like they do a bad job and just try to milk money out of people to add the channel. Their coverage is excellent, product is great, and it is wall to wall NASCAR every weekend. They get their one night in the spotlight and everyone wants to dump on them? No way, if you don’t have SPEED Channel, you can’t truly be a NASCAR fan. If your local subscriber does not offer it, GET A DISH! All hobbies cost money. Being a devoted NASCAR fan IS a hobby. Besides it is incredibly inexpensive relatively speaking.
