Two Races Remain in 2008 Chase

Thursday November 6, 2008
2008 Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International RacewayThis weekend Phoenix International Raceway will host the next-to-last race in the 2008 Chase for the Cup. Jimmie Johnson still holds a 106 point lead but Carl Edwards won the last two races and has cut significantly into the margin.

Jimmie Johnson has won the last two Phoenix races and has an incredible history in Phoenix. I still think this Championship is safely tucked away inside the #48 car. Do you think Carl Edwards will catch him over these last two events?

Jimmie Johnson will take this weekend in Phoenix. I do believe the tires that Goodyear is bringing this weekend, will play a major factor. Watch for right front blowouts.

I don’t care who wins the chase. I was however very happy that Cousin Carl won last weekend. I’ll watch the last two races so I can get “my fix” for races until next season begins. As far as I am concerned, once the chase starts the season is over, sadly. The chase seems to make most of the guys that aren’t in it just put their time in so they can finish out the season. There just isn’t that thrill of competition from all the drivers once those last races commence.

I agree with Steph that there is no motivation for the other drivers to compete other than M-O-N-E-Y from where the finally finsh in the standings. NASCAR is feeling the economic crunch and loss of television audiences. It’s time to go back to the good ole boys free for all. Unless Cousin Carl is a miracle man Jimmie will pull the three peat, but for some reason lately these races(especially at the super tracks) are putting me to sleep. I am 62 years of ago and most of my life a NASCAR fan.

I don’t know if Edwards will catch Johnson, but he sure is capable. He is counting on Johnson to not have the luck that he is having. He will need Johnson to finish at the very least 12 or 13 spots behind him. Knowing Jimmie Johnson’s history, that’s a pretty tall order.

Can’t wait to see if Montoya gets another DNF. Just love it when that happens to that little cocky &#%!!! At least he isn’t as cocky this year as last year when he was Rookie of the Year. Course some of the guys got tired of his crap and started letting him know about it, especialy this year. Sometimes it was subtle and sometimes not, but it was time they started letting him know he didn’t own the track just cause he was “special.” Makes my day when that happens.

Well Steph, I agree with you 100%!! Montoya came into NASCAR spoiled rotton rich and a huguge chip on his shoulder always believing that HE was the best race car driver ever! LOL
I love it when he gets schooled even by some of the drivers that you wouldnt expect.
Here is some real news for you though—-After 22 years of sponsoring a NASCAR team, TEXACO is pulling out after this season! Bummer. Looks like Juan Pablo will be blowing juicy fruit bubbles under his helmet! LOL

Krazy D you made my day!!! Especially about ole J.P. blowing bubbles under his helmet. That’s a great one!!! Lots of LOL about that one. Now if Wrigley would dump his butt, that’d REALLY make my day. My fiance gets kind of aggravated when I yell at Montoya while watching the races–& he’s the one that got me started watching several years ago. Now he doesn’t watch, guess he can’t stand my sailor talk (my Dad was a sailor & truck driver so I can say that)I REALLY get into the races and will NOT miss one for anything and that’s the honest truth.

Does anyone still believe that this series is not rigged in favor of one team?
