Tony Stewart Dodges Tire Problems to Take Talladega

Sunday October 5, 2008
If you are a restrictor plate racing fan the 2008 AMP Energy 500 has to be one of your favorite races of all time. There was no quiet part of this race. Right from the green flag there was something gong on all race long. This was a great Talladega shootout from start to finish.

Tire problems kept the drivers on their toes early in the race. Then all eyes turned to the finish as a green-white-checkers shootout lead to a controversial finish. Regan Smith took the checkered flag first but Tony Stewart was awarded the win when NASCAR determined that Smith passed below the yellow line.

There was something for everyone in the 2008 AMP Energy 500.

Better late than never I guess… and yes, I’m totally glad NASCAR ruled Tony the winner instead of Reagan Smith because going below the yellow line on YOUR OWN is NOT being FORCED. GO TONY!!!

Way to go Tony! glad to see that hot shot Jeff gordon hit the wall. I told you he was washed up! Tony did a great job there’s nothing as exciting as a re-stricter plate race. What’s up with Carl Edwards doesn’t he know that you shouldn’t bump cars in the corners? All in all a great race and a lot of crashes. That’s what we all want to see!

May I respectfully disagree, Whiner? If I never see another pileup it will be a good thing. I don’t like cautions either. Green flag pit stops, pit strategy, fuel strategy and skillful driving is what I prefer to see. Today’s race had some of the best action -wrecks excluded - that I’ve seen this year.

WHILE NOT A TONY FAN HE DESERVED THE WIN IN SPITE OF ALL THE DUMB THINGS NASCAR DOES. WHEN WILL NASCAR STOP THOSE STUPID CAUTION FLAGS WITH 3 OR 4 LAPS TO GO, WHEN THERE IS NO REASON, EXCEPT TO TRY TO MAKE A CLOSER FINISH AND MORE OFTEN THAN NOT A CRASH. I’M BEGINNING TO WONDER IF NASCAR DESIGNED THE COT TO CREATE MORE CRASHS OR IF THE CURRENT DRIVERS ARE JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO HANDLE THEM. AFTER ALL NASCAR CAME UP WITH THE CHASE SO IT’S OBVIOUS THEY ARE A LITTLE LOOSE BETWEEN THE EARS.

Good to see Tony win, but why was the 20 team allowed to work on the car for two and a half hours after the official shut off time? Perhaps if the others involved in the practice crash had been given that extra time they would not have had to go to back up cars and start at the end of the pack. NASCAR needs to show some consistency…a shut down time should be the same for all and not just JGR.

What I meant to say was shut down time should not be extended just because you’re JGR. Along the same line, was the yellow line rule used just because it was to JGR’s advantage? Sort of looks like it.

I like what Mike Waltrip said about the final on this. They made the rules (nascar) so they made the correct call. The thing that makes me a little frustrated is Edwards. This is the second week straight he drove wrecklessly and last week everyone was saying it was cool. To me that was still wreckless. Now this week he does it again and takes blame and everyone brushes it off.I don’t understand when Kyle Bush, which I am not a fan of his either, does something;everyone can’t stand him but when someone else drives wreckless it is ok.Just had to get that off my chest, lol, thanks.Go Jimmie.

I was kind of a 99 fan for a period of time, but the dumber he drives the less I care for him. All the fans that are left in the NASCAR world that I have talked with have been more than dissapointed with the NASCAR infrastructure of todays races!
Oh well I guess that NASCAR doesn’t need us rednecks anymore.
