Race to the Chase Winds Down, Pressure Builds

Thursday August 28, 2008
2008 Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway in CaliforniaAuto Club Speedway in California is the site of this Sunday evening's Pepsi 500. Only two races remain before the top twelve drivers are locked into the Chase to battle for the 2008 Sprint Cup Championship.

Denny Hamlin, Clint Bowyer, David Ragan and Ryan Newman in positions eleven through fourteen are separated by just 101 points. It is likely that only two of these drivers will be in the Chase when the series leaves Richmond next week while the other two will be left to battle for thirteenth. The 2008 Race to the Chase is winding down and the pressure is building.

Just means that they got a free pass on the antics last race! Its no more then a warning not to play rough with a 3200 pound car!

Can someone explain exactly how the points system work for the drivers, and how they get taken away? It seems to me that every week the points dip charp for some drivers and very little for others who do the same thing, and are in the exact position as before the start of the race.
