Carl Edwards Wins With Bristol Bump-and-Run

Saturday August 23, 2008
Ah, Bristol! Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch put on quite a show in the closing laps of the 2008 Sharpie 500. That excitement continued past the checkered flag as those two got together on the track after the race. Hard racing and short tempers are exactly what Bristol is known for. Tonight's race did not disappoint.

NASCAR called Kyle Busch to their hauler after the race. I hope that there are no penalties as a result of this incident.

I hope that Nascar takes 150 points away from the little jerk. He is always moving someone out of the way but he can’t seem to take it in return. What goes around, comes around.

(3) D says:

Carl BARELY touched Kyle…and Kyle had the opportunity to bump back….which he did…but couldn’t make it stick. That’s why I can’t stand him….not only a bad winner, but a sore loser!

(4) Dave says:

Baby Busch………You cry sooooooooooo much about the bump. If you can’t take it, Don’t give it.

(7) MattFan says:

Poor little spoiled brat Kyle, I feel so sorry for him…….NOT!
But seriosly, I hope NASCAR doesn’t hit him too hard, I want to see Carl (or almost anyone) kick his butt without help from NASCAR. It’s a shame really, Kyle is a very talented driver, but he is such a snotty nosed punk that I want to slap him everytime I see him.

(8) sandy says:

What kyle did immediately after the race while Carl had his hand out the window is totally uncalled for. His bump and go was no worse than anyone elses. We are after all racing not just going in circles. He does it to others-you do what you need to do. It isn’t like he hit him hard and sent him into the wall. Whiny little jerk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(9) Cowgirl says:

Shrubbie apparently forgets how his bump and run wrecked Junior when he was in line to win with moments to go. Carl is a polite while I was screaming “wreck him Carl!”. That’s what he really deserves. Does anyone remember his interview after the Nationwide race early in the year where Shrubbie said “I’ll do whatever it takes to win, even if it means wrecking someone.”

(10) anita jo says:

rowdy, is one of the best drivers that you see these days. he can win in anything…. trucks, nationwide cars or cups cars. he does it just like dale sr. did it. WHATEVER it takes. if ya can’t run with the big dogs, stay on the porch.

August 25, 2008 at 12:02 pm
(11) mick14 says:

Well, that’s correct anita jo, but I think you missed the point the other 9 people were making which is, IF YOU CAN’T TAKE, DON’T DISH IT OUT!!! And if you do dish it out, keep your crybaby ass mouth shut when it happens to you!!!!!

August 25, 2008 at 3:08 pm
(12) fan says:

It looks to me like Nascar would be the same with all drivers and called both drivers to their hauler after the race. I personally think both should be penalized for their after the race action.

August 25, 2008 at 3:31 pm
(13) HotRod says:

Yeah, I seem to recall Kyle worring about picking up more haters right after he spun Jr., with what was more then a bump, It ended
up crashing Jr and ending his day
KYLE is a sissy all the way and the after Race
childish fit proves it!
Jr. lost being in the chase last yr over a simple cuss word during a interview, So I hope NASCAR hits the Bush camp so hard it kills his chase title win!!
Steve, your way off base on this issue!!

(15) Darlene says:

He can dish it out but can;t take it. Then he cry’s when it is done to him. Good for you Carl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 26, 2008 at 11:13 am
(16) Brenda says:

Are you all forgetting last year when Carl[after the race was finished] came taring out of pit lane and charged at the winner of the race which happened to be JR.?????? This could have been a lot worse as JR. had his arm out the window waving to his fans. Don’t be so quick to sing Carl’s praises. I am not saying Kyle was right in doing this, just saying that you seem to have forgot too soon that Carl is no “GOLDEN BOY” either.

(17) ticat says:

good thing no one will let their emotions revolve around JAMIESAYS
I really get a kick out of how many race fans here use the hate word??R U really serious or is that just terminology???The whole world hate,s America for real!! but seriously do you really hate your own white country men just because of race results??KB is a great driver and very talanted.I dislike his peronality but I give credit where credit is due.I dispise carl edwards but I dont hate him??You people need to start getting a little more mellow so the whole world will quit hating all of you,.

(20) Tami says:

I like Kyle, he’s young and he can drive anything, he want’s to win. He reminds me alot of Jeff Gordon 8 years ago. But, what he did to Carl after the race, that was wrong. I wish they would have docked him 150 points. Carl should have got docked too!! But, like another race fan said ” The fans loved seeing Busch get spun around “.

(21) Sam says:

August 27, 2008 at 11:35 pm
(23) ticat900 says:

(27) Dunbar say says:

this editorial written by a NASCAR writer says it best:
The invective chokes the e-mail box like plaque in an artery, gumming the works with antipathy and contempt. He’s a girl, he’s a crybaby, he’s a whiner, he’s a jerk, he’s arrogant and condescending. He’s every type of curse word George Carlin ever uttered. He’s a despicable human being. He’s a spoiled rotten brat with no good in him. He’s a dirty driver and a disgrace to his sport. He has an attitude problem. He needs to be suspended and fined and docked points and fired.
And they’re just getting warmed up. Any misstep, whether perceived or real, brings a torrent of criticism down upon Kyle Busch that’s so hateful it’s depressing. It’s difficult to fathom how some people can harbor such malevolent feelings toward someone they’ve never met, but clearly those folks are out there — transferring anger over shortcomings or failures in their own lives, perhaps, or maybe unable to manifest their fanaticism in any other way. Whatever the reason, it’s sad that so many who dislike the current Sprint Cup points leader have stooped to the level of personal attacks.

Hey, this is America. You can like or dislike any athlete or driver you want. And it’s easy to see why some people don’t like Busch — his headstrong driving style can be interpreted as recklessness, his manner in front of the camera can be seen as aloofness, he’s (God forbid) traded paint with Dale Earnhardt Jr. He’s a successful 23-year-old with a lot of money and a pretty girlfriend, a guy who isn’t afraid to mix it up on the racetrack and can sometimes come across as dismissive in public. For fans with a lot of animosity stirring inside them, that’s a combustible mixture.

But it’s not an excuse for character assassination of the magnitude we’re seeing from the lunatic fringes of the anti-Busch brigade, people whose sheer hatred seems to know no bounds. In the wake of last weekend’s tiff with Carl Edwards at Bristol, things have blown all out of proportion. Judging from the hundreds of e-mails I’ve received this week — a handful of them referenced above — you’d think the guy had burned a flag on pit road. While I realize that those who write in represent only a small fraction of the NASCAR fan base, it’s clear that some people need to grow up. Or seek therapy. Or both.

A little perspective is needed here. In the eyes of some people, Busch can never do anything right. Banging into the back of Jimmie Johnson’s car before his comeback win at Chicagoland brings objections that he’s cheating, even though guys bump one another every week. Blaming Earnhardt for getting into the back of him at Kansas last year brings complaints that, well, he must have checked up. Running into Edwards on the cool-down lap at Bristol brings a howl of protest, even though some drivers have been applauded for doing the exact same thing. His rather tame comments after the event — “It’s just his normal fashion. That’s fine. I’ve grown to know that now” — are seen as whining, even though some of his peers might have blown off the interview room all together

(28) Jeffrey says:

we can all agree that Kyle Busch is on top of his game this year, along with Carl Edwards but once the chase starts beware of Jimmie Johnson cause his average finish in points is second and that makes me proud!
