Newman Leaving Penske... For Stewart Haas?

Another big 2008 silly season rumor came a little closer to coming true today when Ryan Newman announced that he will leave Penske Racing at the end of 2008. This makes him officially available to join Tony Stewart at his new Stewart Haas Racing team for 2009. Newman's departure also lends a bit more credence to the rumor that Casey Mears will be joining Penske Racing for 2009.
Silly Season 2009 is now in full swing clearly in full-swing. Some of the drivers still up in the air include Scott Riggs, Joe Logano, David Stremme and David Reutimann. Jayski has the latest 2009 driver/team chart.
Since Casey Mears was ousted from Hendrick Motorsports in favor of Mark Martin where do you think he will land? Will Scott Riggs stay with Stewart as a third team? There are still many 2009 announcements yet to come.

The Rocket Man would most definately be an asset to Stewart. I’d like to see that come to be. Mears on the other hand… hell, if he can’t get the job done in Hendrick equipment I doubt very seriously he could do better anywhere else. Poor Casey. I believe he needs to get back in a Nationwide car. That is if he can find a ride. I think his days in the big show are numbered.
I think Kyle Busch has proved that a change of scenery away from Hendrick can be good for someone. Thus, I wouldn’t count Casey Mears out if he moved to a different top-tier team.
