Dale Earnhardt Jr. Squeezes Enough Fuel For Michigan Win
Sunday June 15, 2008
The wide racing surface at Michigan International Speedway seems to attract fuel mileage battles. The 2008 LifeLock 400 turned into fuel mileage race and it was Dale Earnhardt Jr. who had the right strategy and the right amount of fuel to claim the win.
As fuel mileage battles go today's race provided one of the more interesting finishes. The green-white-checkers overtime finish added stress to an already stressful strategic battle. Junior had enough gas and brought his Hendrick Motorsports Chevy home for his first NASCAR Sprint Cup points win since 2006.

congrats to jr. you’ve got the win behind you, now just keep driving consistently like you have all year. also congrats to tony for finally getting the finish you deserve.
GO JUNIOR !!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU GUY’S DESERVE IT.
LOVED YOUR DAD.
So the driver who hasn’t won in 76 races, wins (by sheer luck)! I remember a day when a win like that would leave a bad taste in a drivers mouth. I’d like to like Jr., but so far in his career he’s been good to ok, not great! Just waiting for the great part ! Let’s hope we don’t have to wait another 76 races or he’ll be making my point for me!
***David***
Not a great driver? How is JR not a great driver? he finishes consistantly in the top ten!!! Johnson, Gordon, Stewart, Busch brothers all consistantly finish in the top ten and they are classified as great drivers. So how is JR NOT? You all need to give it up and admitt that JR is his OWN DRIVER will NEVER be his DADDY and he is GREAT in his own.
I think the fact that JR handled his winless streak so well is a testament to how GREAT of a person and driver he is. Gordon never would have calmly moved to the next race after having three wins yanked out from under him.
So the next time JR is put into the wall by another driver when he is running first, second or third and he grins and moves on to next week, just keep in mind that you classified him as ‘just average’.
BTW: YA JR!!! I am so glad that we got that big white elephant off your back!!!!!!!
Three points to make:
1. Eat your heart out Theresa.
2. David don’t judge a driver’s expertise from a string of strangely coincidental blowen DEI engines last season and other weird mechanical problems. Judge a driver by where he runs prior to this odd run of bad luck always kicking in and the respect of his peers. By the way I am primarily a “Smoke” fan.
3. Speedy88 take a valium.
WAY TO GO JUNIOR. I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT
I for one am glad that Jr. has finally one the long awaited one. Now maybe all the Jr. Nation will sit down and shut up. I am so sick of hearing about Jr. I think everone has forgotten that there are at least 42 other drivers on the track every weekend…..
Great! I hope it’s the beginning of a long line of races he’ll win with his new teamates. I know he has it in him to be as good as his dad now that he’s away from his step-mom.
To everyone who thinks jr nation should shut up after this win should think about nascar without us?………….. A little quiet isnt it.
Good for Jr. Always glad to see a race drought end for a good driver.
Sam,
NASCAR without jr nation would be about as close to heaven on earth as one person could possibly achieve.
TLabonte fan is right about a future NASCAR without a Junior Nation. Lets hear it for a Kyle Nation…..just kidding guys
I am another who’s glad Jr finally won another race. I just hope some of his fans will now give some of us a break. I don’t have anything against Jr, in fact he’s among my favorites, but some of his fans leave alot to be desired. Being a true fan doesn’t mean you have to be disrespectful to others.
Take that, Ms. Earnhardt.
Good win Jr, I’m proud to be a part of the Jr nation. I guess when a driver is popular enough to even have a nation, you’re bound to get some idiots, loud mouths, & even some pu***es that are afraid to show pride for their driver. I for one am not a person that throws beer cans, or even hope someone crashes out of a race, but come on… NASCAR without the Jr nation is not even close to heaven, in fact it would probably put NASCAR out of business.
Go Jr. Go. What a dedication to your Fathers Legend for your winning streak to end on Father’s Day!You are a great driver and handled yourself like a true professional over the past years with the loss of your father, your loosing streak and deciding to leaving DEI. Good luck the rest of the season.( By the way, I am also a big T. Labonte, Smoke, and Kasey Kahne Fan). You can like more than one driver and be part of Jr. Nation.
Being a long time race fan I’ve seen many great races, and I can attest to the fact that every race I’ve seen took a great deal of luck, planning, and a great driver, ” and there are many “. This time these all came together for Dale and I too am very happy for him and his team. A #9 fan.
Actually, Jr. never really grinned and bared it, he actually had his head down and wouldn’t hardly look up on most interviews after the race… Anyway, I think it sucks that Hendrick hasn’t won a race yet without it being a fuel milege one, I hope they can kick it into gear soon… I’m a Jimmie Johnson fan by the way and he got the win the same way… A wins a win but still.. And yes Nascar would be quiter without Jr. Nation, but not silent.. remember all those Kasey Kahne fans like my wife lol. *Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Brian Vickers, and Jeff Gordon!
Way to go Junior! I was a fan of your Dad`s for years. I watched you win in Daytona the year Dale Sr. died. I was there at the race,on the day he drove his racecar to the finish line at Heaven`s door. I know that you can win again because you have it in you,& have seen you prove it! Good Luck @ the Sprint race @ Lowes May 16th. I love the ad by the way. If I`m right,You are wearing an Indian headress. Have a good run Dale. I`ll be watching. Kathy
