NASCAR Sued By Former Official

Wednesday June 11, 2008
A former Nationwide Series official recently announced a $225 million lawsuit against NASCAR. Mauricia Grant alleges that she was subject to racial and sexual discrimination as well as sexual harassment while she worked for NASCAR. You can read over the list of allegations here at CNN/SI.

If this is true then this is a real black eye for NASCAR which has worked hard to attract women and minorities to the sport. Through the Drive for Diversity program NASCAR has actively tried to encourage young talented minority drivers.

Typical Frivolous lawsuit by someone who could not cut it. I hear Denny’s or Waffle House is hiring. See ya on the infield of Talledega.

I can believe this happened, after all NASCAR has been a sport dominated by ME and all but a few have been white. I feel that NASCAR needs to change a LOT of thins in it’s organization starting with how it governs itself. Maybe it’s time for an outside organization to start watching things in NASCAR.

Don’t you just love it.
The federal Gov. MAKES you hire blacks
and they turn around and sue because they’re
black.

IF I WORKED AT A PLACE WHERE I WAS TREATED LIKE GRANT CLAIMES SHE WAS TREATED, I WOULD HAVE QUIT, NOT WORKED THERE FOR A YEAR BEFORE GETTING FIRED.EVERY TIME SOMEONE GETS FIRED, ITS ALWAYS THE ORGANIZATIONS FAULT, NOT THE WORK ETHIC OF THE PERSON FIRED. GIVE ME A BREAK.

Why is that race or sex comes in to play when you can`t get a job or you don`t have what it takes to keep a job. I think things have been handed to them to dam easy.

Notwithstanding the various comments re. this particular situation, I really do believe that they would have more validity if the writers would demonstrate some degree of intelligence by at least using correct spelling & use of the English language. If ignorance is bliss, many of you must be terribly happy. - IAN

Mick20, you are so right. Please forgive me. From your attitude it is easy to see that you really are cousins, (in the biblical sense perhaps) or is it my imagination that I heard banjos when I read your e mail? Oh & if you are wondering; I too am a huge fan of NASCAR, & I suspect from your gibberish, longer than you have been alive. IAN

IAN, I guess my attempt to poke some fun didn’t strike you as funny> Well, I will say I am sorry if I pissed you off! As for my age, I have been retired ten plus years & have been a NASCAR fan for over 40 years. Anyway, sorry if my comments didn’t leave you with a smile on your face. All I can say is, if you can’t take it you shouldn’t pass it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(14) Jayelle Wiggins-Lunacharsky says:

I’d about pass out from shock if she got the $225 M. Someone’s confused a lawsuit with a Powerball ticket. Besides, gas prices are up and attendance is down.

That said, with the two officials on leave and the statements being made, I think Grant has a definite case and will get *something*. NASCAR has worked very hard to diversify the sport, and I don’t think they want to see their investment completely torpedoed.

My “good ol’ boy” father got me loving NASCAR, but being a good ol’ boy doesn’t mean being racist. I love this sport and want as many people as possible to join the party. I think the future of this sport depends on diversity. It sucks that it’s going to be all the harder to bring racial minorities into the sport as fans, drivers, workers, etc. I want to bring all my friends in, and it hurts that some people want to keep some of them out. It hurts that not all my friends feel welcome.

Wow I see we have a lot of knowledgeable people in this discussion. My take is not one of us walked in her shoes or did her job or had encounters that she had so, what do you really know? The correct answer is nothing so crawl back to where you came from and be quite. By the way mabey is spelled maybe my friend look it up.
