Jimmie Johnson Stretches Fuel For Phoenix Win

Sunday April 13, 2008
Hendrick Motorsports came into the 2008 Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Speedway without a win yet this season. It took a bold call by crew chief Chad Knaus but Jimmie Johnson was able to end the Hendrick drought and pick up the Phoenix win.

Fox Sports dropped the ball at the start of the race. They cut away from the Yankees - Red Sox baseball game with two outs in the ninth inning but still missed the start of the race. This left the baseball fans upset that they missed the end of the game and NASCAR fans upset that they missed the start of the race. Fox should have picked one or the other instead of screwing up both.

You hit the nail on the head Steve, Fox screwed up big time! Instead of cutting back to the ball game they should have told the ball fans & fox vewers that the game would have finished on FX as they showed it on both chanels! I have said it before & I say it again: ALL NASCAR RACES SHOULD BE ON SPEED NETWORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least the Speed network knows what a true race fan wants to watch!!!

I wish Nascar would never let Fox televise another race, because in our area we are constanly haveing outages and miss a good bit of whatever is being televised, I get real upset and have let Nascar know about it through emails to them (Nascar.

I believe there are 162 games in a baseball season. There are only 36 races in NASCAR. Do the math. Perhaps Fox should consider this next time. This was handled VERY poorly.

NASCAR fans have had the beginning and/or end of many races cut off because of some other sport broadcast. Even though the race fans only missed the first half of the first lap it was better than loosing several laps or several laps at the finish like what has happened many times before. Baseball fans should understand that when they go on strike for more money, they loose their spot as the top sporting event.

Dude, how about them Pens!!! Do you think your precious Sens have any chance of beating us??!! By the way, you are right, everyone is a Pens fan now. All you see are Pens t-shirts ect. There was even a rally downtown and a huge jumbo tron outside Mellon Arena for people to watch the game that couldn”t get in.

GO PENS!!!!

Im not too mad at Fox for this. Red Sox vs. Yankees is the biggest rivalry in baseball and they kept it on for those who do not have the benefit of cable as long as they could. But its not like anything happened since they got the out as soon as fox cut away. And its not like NASCAR fans missed anything since nothing major really happened in the first half lap of the race.

NASCAR has to create its own channel or something. (No not SPEED, they need to stay on for F1 and the other motorsports). Besides Speed is owned by Fox, so its not like the quality would get any better. Fox is still way, way, better than what ESPN has done so far (I mean from last year, not the good ol days).

But as for the race. Carl Edwards probably shoulda won, but of course his pit crew f**ks it all up…AGAIN! Seriously his pit crew has cost him more races than anyone elses has. Carl should have 15 carreer wins but his crew continues to get him penalized.

Good job to Jimmie, even if it was a fuel milage victory

Maybe it depended on what part of the country you were in. My Fox was cut over to the race when the leaders were on the backstretch on lap one.

Thank you for your quick response.I wonder how many teams will put in extra practice on this off week???As more teams come up to speed team work and pit stratagy will be more important than ever what do you think?….

I also agree that Nascar should not air on Fox and should get their own time on Speed or have their own channel. Also, The next time you see an Nascar driver & their crew talking (or wearing a hat) during the playing of the National Anthem—kick their butts as they are seen by thousands of people and they should put hand on heart and respect the flag & also the prayer being given.
