Ryan Newman Wins 2008 Daytona 500

Sunday February 17, 2008
Coming into today's race everyone expected either the Hendrick Motorsports or the Toyota drivers dominate. In truth, Toyota drivers did dominate much of the race as Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart were very fast all day long. However when the checkered flag flew it was Penske Dodge teammates Ryan Newman and Kurt Busch who crossed the finish line in first and second.

The Dodge drivers were not flashy during most of 2008 Speed Weeks. They didn't qualify particularly well and didn't win any of the preliminary races. In fact, I don't recall anyone in the media or in the garage area mentioning them as favorites for today's race. However Ryan Newman will go down in history as the winner as the winner of the 50th annual Daytona 500.

The monster trucks wuz in town that night
I’d drunk some beers but twern’t feeling right,
Just got my paycheck that same day,
Heck! Momma and I’d just rolled in the hay!
Yet somehow I knew something had gone awry,
Like that tickling on my jean shorts wrapped thighs,

So I yanked off my 8th grade baseball cap,
You know, that one with the mesh in the back,
I yanked on my nuts and yelled holy crap!
Crusty Haulass is gonna win this lap!
Then I knew what had went wrong with my car, no doubt,
I’d forgotten to let my mullet hang out!

Twas a stranger day indeed. I think DAYTONA is always a surprise. In fact when I left work Friday, I left with a guess that either Kurt Busch or Jeff Burton would win. “GLAD I DIDNT BET” but I was close with the big bro. Busch thing.
I only got to see the first 120 laps, and havent really seen the last lap event yet, but it was exciting watching on my new LCD.
As Ricky Bobby (#1 post) said. The Monster Trucks really was in town Last night. A sold out show. Was a terrific show with the most HORRIBLE judging Ive ever seen at a Monster Jam event.
Anyway back to DAYTONA. *WAY TO GO BIG K*

I was surprised there was not more wrecks. They were on thier better behavior.
Was rooting for Tony at the end cause I wanted to see him get his hair cut, but guess we will have to put up with the pudgy guy will long hair for a while. Disapointed that Waltrip Racing did not do better. But, it was good to see Newman in winners circle, seeing his Dad and how excited he was and his “normal looking wife” and not some super model who does not know Nascar from F1 and see how excited she was.
I spent the entire afternoon watching the race and it was a bit boring at the begining, but as usual, the end was exciting. Got pretty sick of the “Gopher Cam”. Having a track cam is not a new thing, but Fox made it sound like some sort of new invention.

Very happy for Ryan and his team to win the 500. BUT,not happy with all the lap cautions with 22 laps left when all the yellow started 12 laps were under caution!! So they raced 10 laps to the finish. LIKE ALWAYS,the ending could of been different. I’m not crazy about the Bush boys but Kyle can drive! I had hoped Mark Martin and Kenny Wallace shined.
