Who Would You Like to See in NASCAR?

Tuesday January 22, 2008
The recent invasion of "pointy-car" drivers into NASCAR has some fans longing for the "good old days." Is it so bad that the best drivers all want to be in NASCAR? I love the idea that NASCAR is now where the world's best drivers want to compete. This can only raise the level of competition and improve the sport overall.

Somebody call Kimi Raikkonen (F1), Lewis Hamilton (F1), Sebastien Loeb (WRC), Donny Schatz (WoO) and Tony Schumacher (NHRA)! Lets get them all strapped in for the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup season.

What non-NASCAR driver would you like to see get a Sprint Cup ride next year?

I would like to see a return to the days when you earned a ride in the cup series and were not just given it because you did something in a car, somewhere else, in a complete different environment. Not only that, how about if you are given your dream shot at the cup series you dont get gimme points because you stink so bad you can’t qualify on merit and you have no points of your own to fall back on. This is beyond ridiculous.

Here is a partial list of those who are on track to earn their ride and not be given a golden spoon by their rich fat cat Cart/Indy bosses.

Steven Leicht, Tony Raines(he should not be out, talk about a great guy who deserves better), Hamilton Jr., Krisiloff, and perhaps Steven Wallace.

If it’s international flair you want, fine. Marcos Ambrose has fully begun to pay his dues the right way.

One more thought or anology if you will.

Michael Jordan was probably the greatest to ever play the game of basketball. He tried that goofy attempt at baseball that made a mockery of himself and the sport. But hey, it made for good T.V., butts in the stands, and probably made someone, who knew the whole idea was idiotic to start with, a lot of cash!

we used to have large nascar parties at a different persons house each week, we also attended 3-4 events each year, but seems in my area everyone is giving up on nascar… cars of tomorrow, superstars just walking in, not earning a spot. too many boring flat tracks, not enough super speedways. i am about done with nascar.

I would like to just see hard working grass roots drivers that race stock cars from anywere in North America work up to the top spots, not Big Names from elsewere in Motorsport…

Boris Said with a full time ride. He has paid his dues and deserves a full time ride more than some of these open wheel drivers that are coming in to the sport. How many drivers has he helped with the road courses and not been repaid for with a ride all year.

(12) 1969RS says:

#11 – right on. Boris is a great guy, excellent driver, gives his advice on road courses freely, but no one pays him back. I guess he does not have the “pretty boy” image that corperate sponsors are looking for.
#3 – If it were not for his Dad, Steven Wallace would not be in a cup ride. There are tons of drivers out there that cab drive circles around the kid. But since he is Rusty’s kid and Dad is throwing $$ at it, guess he is secured a ride.
I do not think F1 drivers would adapt because they would run over a blade of grass and park the car because they would think the aero is ruined.
How about Danica Patrick? Love to see her throw one of her stomping fits on the front stretch of Charlotte. HA! But then again, she should stay where she is at. With everyone defecting to Cup, she just might win one this year!

(13) HotRod says:

The window to move over will get smaller and smaller. With the IROC series dead now theres Little chance
for drivers to move over and learn after this season as all teams have to now this year with the COT! Inless your already here and running lower devisions.
Best move of the year Joe Gibbs Retiring
from football and coming back to his teams in NASCAR!

(14) Zman says:

Danica Patrick! She’s proved she can drive, just terrible luck has prevented her from winning an INDY race.. She should’ve moved last year, but we’ll still take her now!

Go Kenseth in ‘08!!

I think Danica Patrick would get eaten alive in Cup!

I would like to see Ward Burton in a full time ride this year he’s a good driver and intertaining as well

Danica in Nascar!!! Give me a break. She would probably whine that someone cut her off in traffic.

January 25, 2008 at 11:40 am
(18) Smoke62 says:

One last thing. I meant no disrespect to all the women out there. I just don’t think Danica has what it takes to make it in Nascar.

(19) Linda says:

Someone should look at Billy Alley. He’s an outstanding veteran of Knoxville. He’s got the ability, looks, youth, and personality to make it in the big leagues. Id much rather see him, or someone like him given a chance instead of someone whose name I can’t spell, pronounce, or understand when they speak!

(20) Russ says:

Danica would be asking for trouble if she even tried. All those good ole boys racing on the same track would knock her around. Look at what happened to Montoya as a minority outsider. He doesn’t belong in NASCAR either, on account of his cheating style. Indy drivers just can’t cut it.
