Craftsman to Leave NASCAR Truck Series

Wednesday December 5, 2007
Sears announced this week that its Craftsman brand will not be the title sponsor of NASCAR's truck series after 2008. This year NASCAR officials found Nationwide to replace Busch as title sponsor of the #2 series. Now NASCAR needs to put its sales hat on one more time and seek out a title sponsor for the truck series.

Craftsman is the only title sponsor that the truck series has had since it was founded in 1995. The trucks put on a great show wherever they go and is often the best race of the weekend. I hope NASCAR can locate another great sponsor to drive that great series into the future starting in 2009.

#60 Jack Sprauge is sponcered by Con-Way freight, a company I retired from yhe end of July. I can’t seem to get into the truck race even though my company sponcers the truck I am refering too. It seems to lack the zaz that the big boys have!

I think the truck series has been the only series worth watching. Cup is nothing more than politics and money, with only a few teams having the resources to be competitive along with the clout to be able to get caught cheating over and over and still get slapped on the wrist. Busch/Nationwide has turned into nothing more than another series for the Cup drivers to dominate and young kids to use as a stepping stone. But, the truck series seems like the closest thing to classic Nascar racing. Lots of rubbing, tough guys beating up on each other to win. You don’t see Cup drivers coming over and dominating because the truck series is not just the Cup minor league. And, its not all about money, the Harvick team is not a high budget team (like Hendrich or Roush).

Well I have to admit I don’t watch much of the truck races lot of them are not aired when I am around. The ones I have seen were good. One thing for sure is I much rather see the Busch race of which I cannot stand, than read the constant Whining about the Cheaters on this site. Some people have not gotten threw their heads that all teams cheat one time or another and may be amazed how often. Most of the people on this site call cheating when teams get into the Grey Area. Just some teams are in more of the lime light and it’s brought out to the public more. More success the team has more we hear about them. The teams with no success (33 of the 43 + teams) you do not hear a thing about them, you should know that, they are not even mention or very little during the race, unless they wreck in to one of the top teams cars.
If NASCAR is like everything else in this world the more success the team has, the more they will look for things. People does this everyday if they see a person or business have success they must be cheating, and they will look harder at them for dirt to bring up.

Whoa John,
This has nothing to do with cheating but your free to rant!
This has to do with NASCAR not taking care of the fans and this spills over to sponsorship!
If NASCAR doesn’t read the writing on the wall and keeps their head in the clouds, when it all clears there will be nothing left to save!
Again I have to repeat, NASCAR has nothing real to sell us!
With out the fans support NASCAR is gone!!

hotrod, Yes I ranted I know, but my rant was directed towards comment #2 sammer this person 99.99% of the time brings up cheating, I just grow tired of the ones comes on here like #2 and can’t get it through their heads every team in nascar cheats one way or another. Always has and Always will!

Yes, I do agree if NASCAR doesn’t wake up pretty soon, they will wake up to a tune of an empty or near empty tracks, and TV viewership.

Give me a good sprint car dirt track any day; I watch them before I watch NASCAR. I use to would not miss either one, now NASCAR takes second or third choice.

Any way Thanks Hotrod, Merry Christmas too you.

The ever changing face of NASCAR. As someone who has watched all the series form about 1964. I find the constant changes uncomfortable and it seems tradition and experience get kicked out with each new change. I think it’s time to slow down the changes a bit and let all of us catch out breath. Everything in NASCAR seems like it heading for a head on crash into the turn 4 wall. The racing in the top series is getting worse and the feeder series are being deluted with interlopers. I’m going back to watch some real racing at my Local Short Track. At least there I can feel comfortable sit in the same seat I’ve sat in for 50 years. Ahhhh some stability.

JD, you are right, there has been a ton of changes. I think it comes from the growing hunger from NASCAR to make more and more $$. I am sure Crafstman would have loved to stick around, but for the increasing amout it costs them to sponser the series and looking at thier return on investment, it just does not pay.
There was an old saying I heard Kenny Schrader say once, “If you want to make a small fortune in racing, start with a large one”.
It is sad to see Craftsman leave. They helped establish the truck series. It was hard to see Winston leave, but the business still keeps going on.
That is a great point JD, I think many of us “purists” will go back to the local short tracks for our racing fix. For a long time, the short tracks were feeling the crunch when NASCAR would run on Saturday nights. Soon, NASCAR will be feeling the crunch from all of us supporting local tracks in place of NASCAR.

It is not surprising to see all the changes at the top three levels of Nascar. But Nascar will be surprised when fan apathy keeps getting more pronounced.

The constant leaving of the title sponsors(Winston,Busch,Craftsman) now Nextel..With this happening NASCAR is headed for a big fall. Empty seats abound especially at boring tracks like California Speedway. Truck, sprint cars, midget and Saturday night racing have it all over the big dollar Cup crap.
